Are Japanese IDNs Dead???

So, after waiting many years, nothing much seems to be happening with Japanese IDNs.

Anyone aware of any IDN sales lately?

Will these ever be worth anything?

I'm likely letting about 85% of my Japanese IDNs drop this year.

You should put them up for sale here, you never know....maybe at Namepros as well.
Not sure how many developed IDN sites there are in Japanese, but that would be interesting to know.
Seems its just not easy to type in IDNs in Japanese....

I sold a Spanish IDN for $6k in 2021 and have had (low) offers on a few of my better Arabic. We sold TShirt in Thai for low x,xxx.
Native speakers say Hindi will probably never go mainstream, but when i drop them they get snapped up so i am holding
for the time being.

There are almost always bidders for good Chinese IDN drops...and the Korean market is active using IDN.IDN not so much .com it appears.
German has been a good market for IDNs since their inception and many are bullish on Portuguese.
I am surprised French IDNs don't get better traffic, i probably have 5 French IDNs.

Any other thoughts are welcome...

Re: Are Japanese IDNs Dead???

Should have listened to Adam and bought BTC back in the day. Traffic to my IDNs have considerably decreased and parking makes peanuts. Still thinking about developing some for fun. I used to get harassed often to resell some names and always turned them down.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda :D! Holding some mega premiums but oh well. Like a degenerate, I still buy.

LOL...i say the same thing; there are still opportunities in Crypto, but it's a crap shoot.
I bought a dropping Chinese geo yesterday.

I think Arabic IDNs might have a shot down the road. We get interest and offers from Arab speakers but no serious money being spent.

the forum should have looked more into crypto. If we did and bought as aggressively as we bought IDNs we would all be rich.

Maybe we can discover the next big investment opportunity together.

Is there anything other than crypto?

I think there is still a lot room for growth in crypto but it is no longer a secret or super early. I think the secret in BTC or ETH could be that while it has grown a lot it could still have a lot of upside if we extrapolate user growth. There are different models and for example models based on Metcalfe's law would predict prices deep into 6 figures or even higher within this decade. So the secret would be just to hold and not to sell too early.

I can share some of my findings/ideas. Just ideas not sure of they could work.

Rhodium, this metal has a massive 10x+ bull run every 10 years but we are years away from that but if you can accumulate the bottom price and hold a few years it could work out.

Euro Potato Futures. I don't know much about futures but just looking at the chart it has done several 10x in the past decade.

Other than that I don't have anything interesting. I have one illiquid shitcoin that I want to accumulate before I share it, a simple stock investing strategy that could return maybe 25%/year consistently with some luck and two option trading strategies ideas that I haven't tried yet but that probably won't work anyway

Re: Are Japanese IDNs Dead???

According to Namebio a Thai IDN sold on March 12th for $1700 at Godaddy. It was xn--33-nqia4jubqa0kcg0o.com. This isn't much to get excited about but we can always hope for a turnaround in IDN's. I just switched all my names to "make inquiry" and get regular price inquiries but no bites. Mostly, on my Arabic names. There will definitely be opportunities in crypto, I believe, but like Bill says, it is a crapshoot. Interested to hear other people's investment ideas here.

I just started thinking about getting aggressive in offering the names for sale. They won't be cheap, but I at least want to make it known that the domain is up for grabs. I had one domain that used to get xx,xxx offers at least 5-10 times a year and I haven't received an offer on it in 2+ years.

Re: Are Japanese IDNs Dead???

I am done pretty much, have maybe 50 names left and that's really only because I'm a sentimental fool, won't break the bank so not concerned about it.

I don't follow what's going on much so don't know the state of play, not good I'm guessing.

Re: Are Japanese IDNs Dead???

I'm wondering if Russian .com IDN's might be useful right now since they're outside the control of .ru?

As far as other investments, I'm running an ACHI farmer https://achicoin.org/

And deploying Helium HNT network hotspots https://www.helium.com/ - that one's proobably only useful for those of you out in the backwaters because in most major locations, there's too many hotspots deployed already.

Nice to see everyone here!

Looking back, the play in 2013 was definitely to by and hold Bitcoin..

Re: Are Japanese IDNs Dead???

Hi Drewbert. I thought about the Helium hotspot thing before but didn't act. Anyways, I'm in a major centre now. Going to look into ACHI coin. I searched on Bitcointalk.org for info on Achi Coin and couldn't find anything. It is also not coming up on Coinmarketcap.com. I will go on the Discord for info. I guess this post is off topic and might be better in the Bitcoin thread.
