I just tried ChatGPT and was blown away by its ability to carry on a conversation! It's like having a personal assistant in your pocket.

In fact the above forum post was written by ChatGPT

I just asked it: what is an IDN?

It answered: An IDN, or Internationalized Domain Name, is a domain name that contains non-ASCII characters, such as accented letters or characters from non-Latin scripts. IDNs allow internet users to use domain names in their own languages, rather than being limited to the ASCII characters used in traditional domain names. IDNs are encoded using the Punycode algorithm, which converts the non-ASCII characters in the domain name into a form that can be used in the global DNS. This allows IDN domain names to be used with existing internet infrastructure, while still supporting the use of non-ASCII characters.

Re: ChatGPT

I asked it:

What are the benefits of IDN's?

The answer:

IDN's, or Internationalized Domain Names, are domain names that contain characters from non-Latin scripts, such as Arabic, Chinese, or Cyrillic. Some of the benefits of IDN's include:

Increased accessibility: IDN's allow people to use their own language to access the internet, which can help to break down language barriers and make the internet more accessible to a wider audience.

Better branding: IDN's allow businesses and organizations to use their own language in their domain name, which can help to create a more authentic and localized brand.

Improved user experience: IDN's can make it easier for users to find and remember domain names, which can improve the overall user experience.

Increased competition: IDN's can help to level the playing field by allowing more businesses and organizations to enter the global market and compete on a global scale.

Overall, the adoption of IDN's can help to make the internet more inclusive and accessible, and can provide many benefits to businesses, organizations, and users.

Can you write me 5 tweets about internationalized domain names

"Internationalized domain names are making the internet more accessible for non-Latin language speakers. #IDN #globalization"
"No more confusing punycode - internationalized domain names are here! #IDN #multilingual"
"With internationalized domain names, language barriers on the internet are a thing of the past. #IDN #inclusivity"
"Internationalized domain names are a huge step forward for the global digital community. #IDN #innovation"
"Say goodbye to language barriers on the web with internationalized domain names. #IDN #internetforall"

It will write your Twitter tweets for you.

Re: ChatGPT

Then I asked it:

Can you write a 2 paragraph forum post about the problems with email encountered when using internationalized domain names

One major problem with email and internationalized domain names (IDNs) is that many email clients and servers are not able to support non-Latin characters. This can cause emails with IDNs to be undeliverable or to be delivered to the wrong address. In addition, there are potential security risks associated with IDNs, as they can be used to create visually similar, but fake, domain names. This can make it difficult for users to know if they are entering their login information on a legitimate website or a fake one.

Another issue with using IDNs for email is that many spam filters are not designed to handle them. This can cause legitimate emails with IDNs to be flagged as spam, leading to potential missed or delayed communications. Overall, the use of IDNs for email is still limited, and there are many challenges that need to be addressed in order to make it a more widely-used and reliable option.

Re: ChatGPT

I asked:

Please write a case in support of teaching Unicode in Universities

ChatGPT answered:

Unicode is a widely-used industry standard for representing and handling text from different writing systems and languages. As such, it is an essential skill for anyone working with text or language-related technology, such as software engineers, web developers, and data analysts.

Teaching Unicode in universities can help students gain a solid understanding of how different writing systems and languages are represented in digital form, and how to properly handle and manipulate text in these different scripts. This knowledge is critical for ensuring that text-based technology is able to support a wide range of languages and writing systems, and is able to accurately process and display text.

Furthermore, the use of Unicode is not limited to the tech industry. Many industries, such as publishing and translation, also rely heavily on Unicode to represent and handle text from different languages and writing systems. Therefore, teaching Unicode in universities can benefit students from a wide range of fields, and can help prepare them for the diverse language-related challenges they may face in the workforce.

In conclusion, teaching Unicode in universities is an important step in ensuring that students are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to work with text and language-related technology. It is a valuable skill that can benefit students from many different fields, and can help them succeed in a globalized, multi-lingual world.

Re: ChatGPT

I asked it:

Write 3 paragraphs about the challenges that internationalized domain names face with consumer acceptance.

The output:

Internationalized domain names (IDNs) are internet domain names that are written in local language characters, such as Arabic or Chinese. While these domain names can make it easier for people in non-Latin alphabet countries to navigate the internet, they face several challenges in terms of consumer acceptance.

One of the main challenges is that many internet users are not familiar with IDNs. Many people are accustomed to typing in domain names using the Latin alphabet, and may not know how to type in domain names using other characters. This can make it difficult for them to find and access websites with IDNs. Additionally, IDN characters may not be supported by all web browsers and devices, further limiting their reach.

Another challenge is that IDNs are often perceived as less trustworthy than their Latin-alphabet counterparts. This is because many people are not familiar with IDNs, and may view them as unfamiliar or suspicious. Additionally, IDNs are sometimes used by scammers and phishers to create fake websites that are designed to trick people into giving away sensitive information. This can make consumers wary of IDNs, even if they are legitimate.

Overall, the challenges of consumer acceptance of IDNs highlight the need for greater education and awareness about this important aspect of the global internet.

Re: ChatGPT

I asked it:

Can you write a forum post about how to search for a particular gTLD using Google commands

To search for a particular gTLD (generic top-level domain) using Google, you can use the "site:" command. For example, if you want to search for all websites with the ".org" gTLD, you can type "site:.org" into the Google search bar. This will return a list of all websites that have the ".org" gTLD.

You can also combine the "site:" command with other search terms to narrow down your results. For example, if you want to search for ".org" websites that are related to a specific topic, such as "climate change," you can type "climate change site:.org" into the search bar. This will return a list of all ".org" websites that have the term "climate change" on their website.

Another way to search for a particular gTLD using Google is to use the "inurl:" command. This command allows you to search for specific words or phrases that appear in the URL of a website. For example, if you want to search for all websites with the ".org" gTLD that have the word "climate" in their URL, you can type "inurl:climate site:.org" into the search bar. This will return a list of all ".org" websites that have the word "climate" in their URL.

Overall, using the "site:" and "inurl:" commands can be a useful way to search for a specific gTLD on Google. By combining these commands with other search terms, you can quickly find the websites you're looking for.

Re: ChatGPT

I asked it:

should I run ads on my parked domains at Sedo?

It is generally not recommended to run ads on parked domains. Parked domains are typically used as placeholder pages for domain names that have been purchased but are not yet being used for a website. Running ads on these pages can generate revenue, but it is not a sustainable long-term strategy and can actually hurt the reputation of your domain.

Re: ChatGPT

write a poem about the joys and sorrows of being an internationalized domain name investor

Once a domain investor, full of joy and pride
With a knack for languages, I ventured far and wide
I scoured the net, seeking domain gems to find
Internationalized ones, a rare and sought-after kind

With my skills, I could spot a good one in a glance
And snatch it up, before anyone had the chance
I built my portfolio, a collection to behold
Filled with domains in every language, young and old

But with great power, comes great responsibility
I had to protect my domains, from piracy and liability
I guarded them fiercely, with all my might
For a domain investor, it's a never-ending fight

And yet, despite the challenges and the strife
I wouldn't trade my life as a domain investor for any other life
For the joy of the hunt, and the thrill of the catch
Keeps me going, a perpetual itch to scratch

So I'll continue on, with my head held high
Proud to be a domain investor, until the day I die.

Re: ChatGPT

I think that mostly people are eliciting info from ChatGPT but what about the other way round. Can we teach ChatGPT about IDNs, EAI, Unicode ...etc... Does ChatGPT learn from conversations? If ChatGPT can learn from us then this knowledge will then be available to others.

So, I asked ChatGPT: Do you learn from our conversations?

ChatGPT answered: Yes, I am a learning AI, which means I am designed to improve over time as I have more experiences and interactions. However, my learning capabilities are limited in the sense that I do not have the ability to browse the internet or access new information outside of what I was trained on. I am only able to use the information I was provided with at the time of my training, which ended in 2021.
****

This answer is somewhat contradictory. Starts off stating that it does learn from interactions and then states it can only use info from its training.

Anyone know if ChatGPT does learn from all the millions of conversations it is currently having?

Re: ChatGPT

Teaching ChatGPT about language tags

***
Me: The Ukrainian Cyrillic Domain Name for UANIC, Ukrainian Network Information Center, Український Мережевий Інформаційний Центр website is http://УМІЦ.укр/?lang=UK

ChatGPT: The Ukrainian Network Information Center (UANIC) is the official registrar for Ukrainian domain names. The UANIC website can be accessed at http://www.uanic.ua/. The Ukrainian Cyrillic domain name for the UANIC website is http://УМІЦ.укр/. You can also access the website in English by adding the parameter "?lang=UK" to the end of the URL, like this: http://УМІЦ.укр/?lang=UK.

On the UANIC website, you can find information about registering and managing Ukrainian domain names, as well as resources and tools for internet users in Ukraine. You can also use the website to search for available domain names and check the status of registered domain names. If you have any questions or need assistance with your Ukrainian domain name, you can contact UANIC through the website or by email at info@uanic.ua.

Me: Actually the "?lang=UK" parameter means the Ukrainian language.
UK is the language tag for Ukrainian and EN is the language tag for English

ChatGPT: You are correct. Thank you for pointing out my mistake. The "?lang=UK" parameter in the URL indicates that the website should be displayed in Ukrainian. The language tag "UK" stands for Ukrainian, while "EN" stands for English.

I apologize for any confusion my previous response may have caused. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I like that ChatGPT is so humble and polite
