Has anyone been able to register .cn?

Has the .cn registry been taken offline?

Re: Has anyone been able to register .cn?

.cn shows unavailable for virtually 95% of "good" domains that we have searched in the last few weeks ....including languages of Japanese, Chinese and Russian. It does seem strange there is almost never the .cn, especially when both .com and .net are available.

Noting also that .com registrations have become a challenge as well, even if they show available, they will not register most likely due to conflicts among the languages, or perhaps linked to the .cn's being tied up??

Re: Has anyone been able to register .cn?

If the Chinese Registrary cannot be accessed by Domainsite, which often happens I think they show as taken. Of course it could be a demand/bandwidth problem.

I have only regged a handful of dot CN but I do them at domainsite.com, but that is not the cheapest. I personally go for dot com and dot net. IDN effectively makes ccTLDs redundant in terms of targeting local markets, as you can do that with an IDN dot com.

I think they are struggling to meet demand! Hhave you checked out the Dot CN registration stats, it is the fastest growing registry on the planet!

Most I think will be IDN. I have standard 3 letter acronyms at good prices with no interest!

I've been able to do them at discount domains 24.

And I've another question. Is there some sort of restriction on when you can transfer your .cn domains?

thanks

There certainly was. If registered in PRC it has to stay within and if outside vice-versa.

What does this mean? Is there any implication for reselling?

I registered my .cn domains in germany, does it mean no chinese can purchase it? or if they do, they need to use a foreign registrar?

There's no restriction on when you can sell right?

Thanks a lot,

Yes, I think it does. It should not be too much of a problem. This can probably be done in Hong-Kong Taiwan, Malaysia, if not certainly Sinagapore. I don't think there are any hosting restrictions.

I don't think it that much of a problem. I have sold dot CN (non IDN) to a guy from Southern PRC by Escrow, without even knowing what arrangements he was making.

Easiest way to do it, actually, is to get them to open an account at your current register and just push it to them. Let them sort it out from there.

Dave
