OK! I have made a couple of subtle, I hope overtures, to the membership here. And I now have to say that I am pretty disgusted by the response on this forum. OK, I am drunk and I haven't consulted with the management here, but this has been discussed at length previous, and there appears to be no real response from the membership. Clearly this forum cannot run on fresh air, and Olney is now effectively, although all too subtly, asking for subsciptions. The bottom line is you are being offer a much fuller service for the paltry sum of $30 per year. It should not be a lot of money to mos,t but would greatly assist in supporting the service which we have all come to enjoy. All I can say is shame on you, shame on your family and shame on your ancestors, if you are gaining substantial financial benefit but do see fit to contribute!

Subscribing to Premium membership can be done by simply clicking on User CP, going to Miscellaneous and then clicking on Paid Subscriptions. Please do not let yourselves down!

Yes, I agree but at the end of the day that isn't going to butter any parsnips. I feel that I have made an important contribution at that leve,l but still recognise the requirement for a financial contribution. Most churches think of themselves as primarily spiritual insitutions, but you name me one that doesn't require a financial contribution at some stage. The bottom line is that if the forum doesn't pay its way there will be nowhere to make or take an intellectual contribution to or from!

Anyone who's sold even a handful of names via this forum should have no problem making a contribution!

If I remember correctly, I have sold some names here. So, I should have no problem making a contribution. But first, I need to sell some names to get some funds into my PayPal account, hopefully in the next 2 days. :-)

Re: Premium Membership

How do you know who has donated with the button and without the button? I know at least a few have chosen to keep their username blue.

I'm all for supporting idnforums. If I were a new member, I probably wouldn't care about the 300 PM mailbox limit or the ability to post in the Sales thread multiple times a day. There should be more of an incentive for the casual or new member to donate, like restricting access to the Members Only Tips & Resources forum to benefactors. Now that's a carrot that would pique the average member's interest and turn out to be useful.

Yes, I am aware that some have made contributions, some substantial, and that their names haven't changed colours. I was certainly not intending to start a witch hunt, but rather appealing to people's conciences at an individual level. It is notable that the vast majority to date have not.

In terms of providing a further incentive, I would suggest that we start a Premium Members Area, which is exclusive and leave it to the Premium members themselves to decide which information they care to share only amongst themselves and which they are happy to spread wider. This is a critical time, as it is apparent the focus is going to change from speculating to monetizing and some of this info may be regarded as commericial sensitive and not for too wide an audience. It may well be that Members would wish not to have their Premium Names put up for a wider critique and just present them to an audience that is more likely to provide serious buyers. I think it would therefore be sensible to start a separate sales/auction thread for Premium members, which hopefully will not get inundated with too much dross.

I'd give my firstborn for some roast parsnips. Yum. Can't get 'em here.

I guess I should try to bring some seeds in.

Premium Members Area- this is the best idea yet! That's a truly a great incentive.

Just echoing what Gamma said, many of us have contributed behind the scenes early on when Olney was upgrading servers etc. I agree that everyone should participate in helping here, but its not just the 'red' guys that have made donations.

Yes, I appreciate that and I think Olney should recognise this by upgrading all of those who have made such contributions. I feel that we need to have this distinction and to have a well established Premium Membership, but I would be the last to advocate that those who have already contributed should do so again at this time.

Have just upgraded.

I am aware that I don't respond to many threads, however I do read most of them daily, some I find are extremely funny, some are downright rude, others I have no idea what the hell they are going on about, but generally the information given is superb. With so many active members, they can't all be wrong.
This forum has taught me an awful lot about this business, seeing as I had no idea what IDN even meant back in early Feb.
I also think on the day of reckoning when all of the premium members are multi-millionaires, we should hire the most expensive hotel in the world and meet up to compare stories, bank balances, and divorce's, should be quite a laugh, and as good a reason for a drink up, as I can think of.

Greetings Beamer- you are a quiet one...you've been here well over 2 months, but now your on our radar!
IDNF is definately moving in the direction of more good information, more international members, a good dose of humor, and hopefully a lot less of the rudeness.

Good luck in your idn search, feel free to post or pm questions to various members you think can help you best. Everyone here started at the bottom, just at different times. Some have climbed faster than others, but what is important is how members have been helpful to each other so everyone can learn and continue to move up.

Re: Premium Membership

Actually guys sorry I'm in Guam for a few days...
The premium system at first was something I exprimented with but a few people signed up before I even knew how the system worked.
There are some that contributed before I made the Premium system.
You might notice some may have had a few perks here & there that others didn't.
Let me look through my list I do appreciate all that contributed but didn't expect while I was out of Tokyo that so many members would start to sign up.

I will make a premium section if you guys want it...

Re: Premium Membership

Hello Olney,

The Premium Membership notion came on suddenly and a bit confusedly (at least to me). However, I think many understood it as a way to express gratitude for the work you have done in developing this forum, and so were - and will be - contributing gladly. It is a great tribute to you and the combined contributions of the membership.

I think we are all happy to follow your lead in taking the next step.

Congratulations to you personally, and best regards,

Vgemito
