I don't know if this was posted already...

Microsoft Issues Tool To Block IE7 Auto Updates

Quote:
Microsoft on Wednesday released a tool that will let enterprises indefinitely postpone upgrading to the new Internet Explorer 7 browser when it debuts later this year.

Although IE 7 for Windows XP remains in beta testing, the company wanted to offer the blocker now, said Gary Schare, director of product management for IE, because of lessons learned.

"We issued a blocker for Windows XP SP2 after the fact, but it was late in the game," Schare said, talking about a tool that Microsoft rushed into customer's hands in 2004. "With IE 7 we want to give enterprises ample time to deploy the blocker toolkit so that they can test IE 7 on their timeline."
This is just another sign that the release is imminent.

Well the clear news is that the Final Release will be near the end of a month and not in the middle so as to avoid the monthly patch. It would seem that the things are moving ahead quite quickly now.

We need to allow time for the blocker itself to be rolled out globally and then several more weeks for everyone to have a chance of downloading.

If they have released the Corporate Blocker then that suggests we are getting close. Looks like we are going to be able to manually download the Release Candidate before the Automatic Updates, so don't expect to see it on your machine tomorrow morning.

I still have 31st August chalked in, but Sept 30 or even Oct 31st are possibiities.

Rhys is correct on them keeping IE on a ventilator for another 2 years.

It would seem that the only previous update on this scale was SP2 itself. I think we are looking at 50% plus penetration in the first wave, which is likely to last several weeks.

Re: Roll the Drums!

I also have the feeling that Microsoft will release IE7 very soon, in 2 weeks?

You probably won't see me list IDN for sale any more. Let's continue chatting here, but killing each other at Snapnames!

Re: Roll the Drums!

Two weeks would be like a dream!

I going to set my expectations to November just so I'm not disappointed anymore. I just hope that's enough.
