Help! Someone tell me the source of my traffic

Ok I have a mystery I need solved. Solving it may be important to helping all of us figure out how to drive more traffic into Japanese IDN domains.

I have a domain 原油価格.com "crude oil price" ovt 20,383 rather unremarkable compound domain. Well for the last 2 months it gets traffic, lots of it. About 152 views in the past 3 weeks, with a CTR of 13% and an ave ppc of 30 cents. Some interesting points:

1. All of the traffic is from Asia
2. Overture does not have stats for a search of 原油価格.com with extension
3. When inputting the term 原油価格 into yahoo or google, my domain does not make the first page or any subsequent page I have looked at so far.
4. Doubtful that it is type-in traffic, because if so, I have lots of domains who would almost certainly be displaying a similar rise in traffic.

So WHERE IS MY TRAFFIC COMING FROM? I'm begging you guys to help me figure this out.

Host it and analyse the traffic - even the most basic traffic analysis tools these days tell so much.

Do you have a server you could point the traffic to? The server stats will tell you a littel more about where the traffic is coming from.

Google trends does show a little spike in searches mid 3rd quarter for the last two years. Maybe the summer driving season has people typing in this term.

Last month I had a spike in traffic for an Arabic domain - results.com. It seems Egypt holds elections this time of year and searches surge for election results. I got hundreds of views within about two months. A few days after these elections and the traffic went back to normal. Something similar could be happening with your domain.

What I can think of:

1. Type-ins.

2. Maybe a site somewhere put a wrong a "href=" link.

Yep, that's the best way.

Otherwise, forward it as a frame to ND and in the header place some tracking code. Statcounter works well for me.

I have been seeing a similar situation since the Israel/Lebanon conflict. I am getting a lot of traffic from northern Israel and I have no idea why:

אני.com (me, I)
Google about 13,000,000 Hebrew pages
US Ovt 170

It seems it's not from a hyperlink anywhere on the net.

The only explanation I have now ---> Type-ins.

Sorry, I used Google's tools to help search hyperlinks, but they failed most of the times

So, my previous guess is still good.

Well, doesn't quite make sense - there's no ovt with ext. With about 200 type-in a month, you should have at least 10 or 20 ovt with ext. Or ovt with ext doesn't apply to japanese names?

I do think that this is timely traffic and not a normal pattern. After all, we are talking about an oil domain here.

I still highly doubt that these are type-ins. The Japanese don't type in in general and certainly not for domains that never existed until I put up my parking page.

I am tempted to host it on my server but I'm greedy and part of me doesn't want to interrupt the flow of little nickels coming from my namedrive account from this domain.

Perhaps, you can check with the owner of Gold price.com to verify.

I have the .net of this and..... 6 hits/0 clicks in the same time frame...
5 of those hits came on 3rd Aug. What is your hit count for the same date Rhys?

August 3rd received 13 views and 1 click, this is about the slowest traffic day i have on record this month
