For a fair picture you should always take the second bid and ignore the top bid. Mostly there isn't much between them, but about 50 is what is actually being paid here.

Still not bad, right?

I am finally starting to get Japanese traffic and clicks on par with my Russian and French.

I've never seen such a stupid top bid. He could be paying ¥53 and is actually paying ¥1000. More money than (ad)sense obviously.

Re: 証券 取引所 (stock exchange) Max Ovt bid ¥1,000

In my industry, this is the usual thing that sparks an Ovt bid war. I saw our keywords jump from $.50 to $20 bids in a year. Everyone wants the top spot. I hope that is happening here.

I am also, coincidentally, finally starting to see decent Japanese traffic and even clicks. Is it seasonal traffic or seasonal ad revenue or both or neither?

Re: 証券 取引所 (stock exchange) Max Ovt bid ¥1,000

You usually have to think about the strong average bid to think about the value.
One single high bid on OVT doesn't mean a lot if you are using NameDrive because it's run by adsense.
If you advertise it as being a domain with Max bid at 1,000 yen & there's no way of knowing if they even advertise with Adsense. More likely the domain is going to get .10 to .20 cents a click (your take).

Re: 証券 取引所 (stock exchange) Max Ovt bid ¥1,000

I have a name (I think genius has a variation of it) that had 9,999 Yen top bid a month or two ago ~ 2nd bid was about 70 Yen! It is now back down to 121 top 3 bids... Im guessing someone who didnt really know what they were doing set the bids...
9,999 Yen is maybe as high as you can go??

I wasn't advertising, it's not up for auction or anything. I only put that in the Title line to get a response. Most of my 'appraisals' go unanswered. I just wanted to see if anyone else ran into this issue. I am happy to finally see Japanese traffic.

Do you feel that the increase in your Japanese traffic is due to indexing?

Well I am nearly upto last months total for Japan and many of them have been pointed nowhere for over a week due the fact that I went on holiday for a week or so whilst I was in the middle of shifting things around.

I have gone back to more natural keywords as a consequence of indexing. I think this rather than indexing itself has shown the greatest benefit to date. Traffic is not sharply up when you filter out the Dot Net Bot, if anything it may have declined at bit. But there is no doubt CTR has improved dramatically with PPC holding up well. I think the overall depth of the AD pool is much more healthy for Japan than it was a couple of months ago. This means that many more keywords are bringing home the bacon.

Not sure. I think it is a seasonal effect and other things over which I have no control. RD told me that traffic typically decreases during the summer. End of summer is probably helping, but I don't know what else is going on. I am getting real traffic and clicks to my .JPs for the first time ever.

Well just wait until they start cranking up the Advertising budgets in the run in to Christmas, with IE 7.0 coming on stream!

For those countries that celebrate Christmas, that is.....

I can't wait to see how my seasonal New Year domains will do!
