I would say quite the contrary. IDNers are incredibly generous with their information and assist of others. In the case you mention, you need to get private opinions rather than posting if you are considering getting all the extensions of a domain.
From what I have seen, most IDNers register the .com when possible, and would rather spend their next $8 on another .com where possible, rather than picking up the .net. We have pick up dozens of .nets from ideas gained in the forum, and many of those times send a pm of thanks to the person who posted. Anything that is open to register is fair game, and with the numbers we are seeing in this forum there are a lot of eyes watching the boards. You should be flattered when someone thinks enough of your find to register behind you, and if it bothers you don't post because just about everything is getting mopped up these days if you haven't noticed!
