$2.47 click for Thai Domain

Hello everyone,

Just to report that yesterday I received a $2.47 click on one of my Thai domains. Generally my Thai traffic has been up, about 2 to 3 times for some names. Perhaps the Trendy Thais are downloading IE7.

Cheers!

Sorry to say, I haven't hit the big time but this does form part of a wider picture of improving traffic and CTR from Thailand. My research shows that Advertising is now there in depth in a way that it isn't elsewhere. The enthuisiasm for IDN is apparently there from high traffic on domains with no SERP. All that seems to be missing is IE 7!

There are always "random" big clicks out there. Just because you are Thai, doesn't stop you clicking on a high value link every now and then. But one swallow certainly doesn't make a summer. Most Thai clicks are of the $0.02 variety. Onto RD's points:

1) Thai traffic across my 800 names has been flat since I started measuring 3 months ago. When I find a name that is getting noticeable traffic (i.e several hits a day), it is because of search engine traffic from a freshly indexed domain.

2) The relevance of ND's Thai ads is startlingly bad in most cases. I can type a Thai term into google and get a full 8 ads. Then view the same domain name, and get nothing but a pile of irrelevant ads, sometimes with German or Belgian domains / websites! I don't know why this is, but I can only guess that because Google doesn't yet have a developed operation in Thailand (no Adsense yet etc.) they only have a very basic system operational.

So whilst Thai traffic is reasonably healthy, and certainly click-through rates are very encouraging, even with irrelevant ads being served regularly, I don't see any evidence of increasing type-in traffic, and I don't expect to see anything major to happen until after IE7.

Re: $2.47 click for Thai Domain

Is Yahoo making much of a presence in Thailand.
What about developing adsense type pages at this time for Thai IDNs.

1) google has 90% market share in thailand, sanook.com most of the rest
2) Adsense doesn't exist in thailand as of yet

I know there are ads in Thai, I saw Sony.co.th ads in Thai language 4 monhts ago. But there are hardly any advertisers as yet, hence no adsense.

Even when they do have advertisers for thai terms in the google search tool, they normally fail to show up on ND's parking pages. I have plenty of domains with decent terms that produce google search ads, but nothing on parking pages. Guess we just "aren't quite there yet".

As an example, for your เกม.net domain, the preview might very well show a nice bunch of thai ads. But for me at least in BKK, when I view the page, I just get a load of totally irrelevant English ads:

-------
DDR Arcade Dance Pads
Buy DDR Games, Pads, Accessories & More. Find Weekly Special Discounts
www.Hartsunlimited.com
Pinball Arcade
Pinball machines, Foosball, etc. Check out our money-saving links!
www.pooltablesandbilliardsgames.com
Mortal Kombat Arcade
Quality new and used items. Find mortal kombat arcade now!
www.ebay.com
----------

Hence my comments in a couple of posts about how bad the Thai ad matching is. I mentioned this to NameDrive a couple of months ago but they seemed to suggest it was Google's problem. I've no idea but it certainly isn't "right" - if the preview shows Thai ads, then so should the real thing.

Well, it is useful to know that ND Previews are a waste of time!

Re: $2.47 click for Thai Domain

No, I think they just have a major bug somewhere between ND and Google. Don't know whether it is just for Thai names or others as well.

Actually, when I look up "เกม" in thai google at the moment - there are no ads at all. So who knows? Perhaps google have shut down thai ads for a few days?!?

Just to confirm, I do get the same preview as you - a whole page of beautiful Thai ads. But when I view the domain itself, just a pile of crap.

Either google isn't serving Thai ads at the moment, or they have banned the IP address I am using, or something else is going on... Who else is in Thailand to check? I think Wot is. I will ask him what he sees...

Re: $2.47 click for Thai Domain

I only have a few Thai domains, but they are not too bad. They actually used to have a lot of good, targeted Thai ads.

I can confirm that I used to get a slew of ads with keywords like กลอน (กลอน.com), but not today. However, many of my domains still do show Thai language ads at Namedrive. Many are no longer related to the keywords at all, though. Some are still just fine. I guess I am spoiled.
