Can I register € symbol in domain names?

Hi all

I know that it was possible to register domain names including the € symbol (and I know that some lucky guy owns €.com) but trying today with dynadot I received a charset error - any ideas why?

Re: Can I register € symbol in domain names?

Registration of € symbol was barred in early June this year I believe, probably due to phishing fears.

Sour grapes by the US because they cannot have their $ sign. It was them entrenched it in all the software, so that is their problem!

I have tried recently to register a couple with the €, with no luck. I always get a character set error. I think someone said on another thread that it is hit or miss, I have only missed. Maybe the dynadot algorithm lets you reg the € with numbers

Maybe someone else could comment, I know there are varying ideas on symbols but I sure like this one. I may have to save up and buy one in the secondary market.

You're right: DomainSite algo: no go. Dynadot's one: ok.

What body decides on what symbols are / aren't permissible? Does this mean that existing € domains are at risk?

Re: Can I register € symbol in domain names?

My understanding is that you can still register €+numbers but not €+letters. The problem is that many registrars let you order and pay for €+letters without any probs, but it will never get registered. I had this problem with domaindiscount24 and I know another member here has had the same problem.
