There are now 2 markets for domains. Collectable and marketable generics. A good example of collectable are LLL.com/.net and NNN.com/.net. Collectables have done far better than the other recently, if you consider the appreciation of LLLs and NNNs the past year or so.
So yes, domain valuation may not necessarily depend on PPC or even end user interest.
