Olney has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Japan is in need for a domain change

As we all know when we try to tell people why to use IDNs it's hard for them to image that foreigners (Non native English Speakers) might actually want to use the internet based in their own native language.

I clearly see that Japan WILL adapt to the URL changes. The registries that are selling IDNs are active buying themselves goldmines for future selling.

The way I see it. Japanese people don't have good options for companies to get really good Romain based URLs at this point. Short brandable, easy to remember in English forget it.
Many major companies that have web sites late in the game have to register .nets, site names with hyphens & a lot with both. I'm not talking about small portals or homepages I'm talking about major corporations that actually advertise their websites.

I believe that since the IDNs are native Japanese, people will be able to remember then a lot better than trying to get a romain based web site name. Most Westerners don't realize Japanese people do not really know how to write native Japanese terms in Western letters. They never do it for themselves because there is no reason too so this complicates things with letters like "R" & "L" which both sound the same in Japanese, or the use of OU complicated but to simplify why wouldn't it be easier to just list your website in Japanese? Old young can clearly see what it is.

Re: Japan is in need for a domain change

Yes, I thee and me can get our heads around it, I am sure the Japanese will manage.

I suspect there could already be significant traffic on Japanese dot JP IDN, but really have no idea how to find out.

Best Regards
