Adult Websites...issues

Can anyone provide information on adult content websites in various countries.
I have been cautioned that the Thailand government may restrict certain sites with different levels of adult content, so that is an issue that may come up as development progresses.

Any other information about possible IDN site restrictions in Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Greek, French, etc.

That's a very flippant reply, but not much use. My belief is that as soon as the Thai government catches on to IDNs, they will ban a lot of adult names, purely because of the domain itself being too "rude". They simply won't care what you are advertising. The name itself will be considered inappropriate.

DG- do they block any ASCII names currently due to vulgarity, and are there many Thai adult sites at the moment. Does Thailand government have an organized effort towards any type of internet censorship?

Re: Adult Websites...issues

It seems like Japan doesn't have any set internet rules that I know of(There are company regulations though).
As being a non resident of Japan you wouldn't have to adhere to Japan laws anyway. The largest Japanese adult site is based in Las Vegas. The biggest sites of Japan or any country for that matter doesn't even have to have legal presence there anymore.

But Japan doesn't actively Block anything, it's a male run society. They might make somethings a law but since guys run the country they don't adhere to the laws. Sad but true.

The .net is still free.

Fri Oct 13, 8:43 AM ET LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Walt Disney Co. on Thursday said it took "appropriate action" against employees at its Paris theme park who were caught simulating sex while dressed as Disney characters in a digital video that has received wide attention on the Internet.

They ban many thousands of adult sites. From within thailand, you get redirected to a site called cyberclean.org. It is very organized, and comes directly from the Thai Government.

It's very hard to say whether there are any bans in place on the ASCII domain alone. Very few ASCII domains would be offensive to Thais, because English is a foreign language and just doesn't have the same impact as Thai. That will of course change completely with thai language domains.

I think banning is based on website content. For example, adult words like 'sex' are known to Thais, and it would be incredible that any domain with the word sex in it will be banned.

What DG seems to be saying is that IDNs that are deemed "vulgarity" may be at issue, as well ones with hardcore content. Just a consideration for those planning to develop since that is the phase many are moving into.

Yes, absolutely. It has very little to do with the word "sex", especially since Thais hardly refer to that word directly. Incredibly the most popular Thai search term for "sex" is the transliteration of the English word "sex" into Thai.

I won't be providing a list, but there are certainly at least 20 terms that are "vulgar" to thais, and I would expect those terms, and derivative of those terms, to be banned by the Thai government, no question.

Any IDNs providing hardcore content (e.g. affiliates of paid adult sites) will also be banned, just as their ASCII counterparts are.

For many asian countries, there is no need for hardcore, even topless is banned. Of cos, there are many ways to circumvent this - many sexy chinese sites with icp permits, have got pictures more tiltilating than nudity.
