Walla is a slang word used in israel that will translate as close as possible to "for real" , and yes you're right, there is a portal called walla as well but to best of my knoweldge there is no TM problem since it is a generic word

Hi Michael,

I own walla.com in Hebrew. The Israeli portal is in its final stage to trademark "walla.com" in English.

I spoke with a US trademark lawyer, and was told that I can not oppose the trademark registration; furthermore since its a generic word being used in Hebrew and Arabic I will not infringe on their trademark as long as the name is not being used as a portal etc.

They own the trademark in Israel (in Hebrew). Since Israel is not a member of the Madrid Accord, that trademark was restricted to Israel only... well until now.

I think walla.net is a great investment. For the last 3 years my dot com has been getting some hits every day. I see significant increase in traffic in the near future.
