IE7 Released in Japanese

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...e/default.mspx

The IE7 Worldwide page: "Internet Explorer 7 is now available in Finnish, German, Japanese, and Spanish. To download Internet Explorer 7 in one of these languages, visit a worldwide download page:"

But in fact, clicking on the links to those IE7 sites in Finnish, German, Japanese, and Spanish shows that IE7 is not available for download.

Someone tell Microsoft!

Re: IE7 Released in Japanese

Obviously, not quite ready, but it looks at though Japanese will be released on Automatic Updates at same time as English.

OK, that is not the full package we are looking for, but it means that we will be out of the starting blocks at last!

Sounds very good. Do you have a source for that?

No I am guessing, but if they have Japanese ready for release, it doesn't sound such a big deal to put it on Auto Updates. Lets face it not many copies are going to get downloaded manually, I don't think. There is not much general awareness of browser alternatives in Japan.

French is also on the list now and Arabic is on RC1 list. Hopefully they will be downloadable soon. I believe the official release date is November 1st so they may have just added the info in preparation for the international launch.

Probably 2 actually. Most expectations are now for the 2nd. That gives them time to sort out a few other languages which hopefully show go Auto Updates with English.

oidon, I haven't worked on IE since um... 1999 but we generally did globalization testing using the English browser (or fake localization) on a Japanese OS or system locale.

I presume it works just about as well now as it did then: a few quirks related to font differences in menus and dialogs, but no major disasters. As for "supported", probably not in the sense that MS Support will help you if something isn't working quite correctly; however, it should "work." There shouldn't be any code differences between the English and Japanese versions, just resource differences.

I am surprised that at least first tier market languages aren't shipping simultaneously... we did that in IE4 and IE5 (within a few days, anyway). But translation vendors do take time, and loc test teams sometimes operate on very lean staffs.
