Re: France News Now About Idns

Kinda sorta translation...

Edition of 02/11/2006 - per Cyrille Chausson

The arrival of IE7 and Firefox 2 should dope (MEANS BOOST) the requests and the sales of international domain names (IDN), predicted a group of industrialists (which counts in particular among its Verisign members, manager of the com).

The international domain names or IDN (Internationalized Domain Names), from now on supported as a native by the navigators of Microsoft and Mozilla (more than 95% of the market), authorize the use of orthographies having in particular recourse to diacritics (such as 3rd or ô in French) in the address Web. It also allows the recognition of the Asian alphabets (Korean, Japanese
or Chinese), Cyrillic or Greek.

With the origin, the DNS are coded according to the ASCII standard (100% Anglo-Saxon), thus banishing any attempt at encoding of stressing or linguistic characteristics. Preceding reports from Firefox and Opera had integrated a first level of support of the IDN, but very quickly that had been used as springboard for pirates to penetrate the systems. From where the reserve of the registrars
(providing recording of the DNS) to propose with the sale of the international DNS.

The principal petitioning countries of IDN are Germany, Taiwan, China, Japan and Korea, reports Verisign.

Re: France News Now About Idns

But if you go to the most popular french IT forum, they will tell, 'c'est la de la merde'

They cannot accept that IDNs are becoming a reality; with the results that today, majority of French IDNs are owned by foreigners; Merci la France!

Yeh, that's why french idns will be associated with parking pages, and people will cringe when they visit an idn. Becoming another .info.

I don't know what you are talking about. We are all set to develop our French .infos.

Otherwise, what kind of traffic can a .info expect?

No, French idn domains will start to be sold to people that want to develop them, just like ascii...

And when you do develop, and SEO your site, you will get traffic by Google and Yahoo search etc.
