Dentsu is using their IDN!

http://電通.jp/ Dentsu has set their IDN to forward to their co.jp website. Dentsu is Japan's largest advertising agency and thereby one of the world's largest ad agencies. Now we know they are aware of IDNs and starting to use them; this is very very good!

Re: Dentsu is using their IDN!

If they propagate idn as an advertising tool, usage will ripple through the entire japanese online enduser chain !

Great news Rhys .

Bloody right! If every company in Japan is persuaded that it needs to undergo expensive rebranding to keep competitive, then they stand to make an absolute killing. Does anyone doubt that the advertising agencies will be smart enough to cash in on a God given opportunity?

Re: Dentsu is using their IDN!

I think they'll all still play a wait and see game "lets listen to ICANN".

What would be great if we could form a credible committee to reach out to these companies, educate them and let them understand what IDNs are (Telephone and generic letters) and what stage they are at and ultimately hold public auctions for some generic names to get the fever running... personally I don't think its that big a task.

Anyone interested?

Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

The first thing we need is full browser support.

The second thing we need is ICANN to avoid making confusing and damaging public statements and focus their energies on what they should be doing. If anyone serious believes that ICANN are capable of constructing a fully Unicode Root, then they have been sniffing too much white powder!

The third thing we need is little more patience. Two months and people will be tearing your arms and legs off to get at your portfolio.
