I am not sure he know you could register IDNs 6+ years ago, or that they are functioning on the internet today. Punycode works in the existing system A-Z, -, 1-0. There is no brick changing.

This whole brick building/changing/laying bull is getting me a little nervous. What do you think they have planned?

Yes, they have even dropped the four letter "e" from their own title!

So they that they alter the form of extensions to map as an IDN as well, there is no way that that is going to affect our current investments is it? unless all of a sudden you can have:

IDN.com and IDN."IDN version of .com"

I think the bit about "changing bricks" is if they directly put "unicode" or foreign language scripts (and we are talking 50 plus languages) into the root of the DNS.

Seems logical from an engineering standpoint that the punycode system will need to sort out the "routing" regardless of whether it is visible or just an underlying component of the system.

While they sort out their options, hopefully IDNs will gain momentum under the existing system and take away any fears they will break the internet.

People who put forward such argument are those that have not analysed the problem. How do you attribute script to a language? Who do you put in charge of languages? Is it acceptable to have a an array of different registeries mascarading as dot coms? What is the point of combatting phishing, if you are then going to turn around and licence it? Can you make decisions with no regard for intellectual property rights? How often have ICANN come up with a decision that is detrimental to Verisign? Look at the decision of the Dot Net Licence renewal. Come on try and use the little grey cells a little!
