Traditional VS Simplified chinese

Anyone has any idea why traditional chinese usually has lower search results on search engines, yet has higher OVT compared to its other simplified form? Just a common observation.

For instance, for the term cars,

22 for 汽车 (simplified)
11576 for 汽車 (traditional)

Which would be a better alternative to accquire?

Not difficult. Overture is not collected for China, so the Overture will reflect what is searched in the US where traditional form will dominate. Yahoo is not big in China so Overture is never going to be the best measure.

Simplified Chinese is ideal because you are guaranteed search ranking and type-in if monetizing PRC traffic is ever straight forward.

Traditional Chinese, however, appears at least for now to give same Search Results as simplified. If this is the case the SEO value is going to be massive, but people for PRC will need to bookmark site as direct navigation is likely to difficult.

Talking Re: Traditional VS Simplified chinese

Chinese on the mainland have become reasonable and are starting to use Traditional characters again. Considered by some to be simpler to learn because they are more logical, they are also highly regarded for being more beautiful.

In the new China, being fashionable, rich, and beautiful is highly valued, so these characters, once relegated to the niche areas of calligraphy on the mainland, are comming back in style. In addition the cachet of being more sophisticated, from HK, has always had its appeal. Do you know any Chinese who travels overseas who answers the question, where are you from, with the answer 'I'm from Xian.", of course not, everyone says 'I'm from Hong Kong.' So, only natural to write like Hong Kong as well.

"We need to reach out to world markets of Chinese beyond the mainland and that means Chinese people need to use Traditional characters" said Wu Guanzheng, head of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China. A special committee has been formed to replace outmoded simplified street signs with traditional ones in Beijing for the upcomming Olympic Games. "Other cities will follow" said an unnamed Beijing official, "it is only natural."

It remains to be seen how foreign speculators, who initially bought up simplified IDN (Internationalized Domain Names) in simplified Chinese, cope with the change, as the ever elusive Chinese market presenst them with ancient challenges for the new age.

Careful, HK will also change to simplified chinese in a matter of time, by 2047 or before - quite possibly before that.
