Anyone see new "Casino Royale" Bond movie?

Maybe the most entertaining of Bond movies for sheer action and adventure.
No shortage of bad guys, creative chases, shootups and destruction.

Bond has a special place in the psyche of the British. Secretly deep down we still all want to pretend to be in control of World Affairs. Bond allows us to do that in our fantasies.

When Bond puts on his Tuxedo, we all intuitively believe in him. A bit like when your President puts on his penguin suit and commits you all to mass slaughter in the name of God.

It took 50 years, after the Japanese had destroyed the myth that the Royal Navy was the greatest military power in the World, for the British to come to terms with the fact that we were all playing Captain Pugwash.

Lets hope the end result is worth it.
And that would be to bring a better life than any that existed in Iraq or Afghanastan under Saddam or the Taliban.

The mess over in the middle east is basically a religious civil war, whether Sunni vs. Shiite, or Palestinian vs. Jews with a bunch of renegade terrorists targeting British, Americans, and coalition forces and contractors. The hatred in that part of the world goes back over a thousand years, and maybe a good shake-up and some hard decisions will sort things out for the long haul.

We may well end up having to let the religious factions settle their own hatred, then let the United Nations sort out the pieces.
Mass Slaughter fits better for the mass murder committed by Saddam, or what is going on in Darfur.

I was referring more what is happening to Americans than their actions. Unfortunately, Iraq was always going to be a mess, and much of that relates back to the days when the British were inteferring in other peoples affairs. At some point, the Iraqis and their neighbours are all going to have to come to terms with one another. If that can only be achieved through mass killing of each other, then there is probably nothing the British or the Americans can do to prevent it.

Most of the time he is not wearing his tux and only says his famous name at the very end of the movie.

I have all the JB collection and this one will soon be added, excellent movie.

Sorry, I misread your post. We are all learning a hard lesson over there and one can only hope that it is all for a bigger purpose.

We live in a largely populated military area with 4 large military bases. Parris Island and MCAS Air Station are here in our same county, and 20 miles away in Savannah are Hunter Army Airfield with over 5000 enlisted, and Ft. Stewart, US 3rd Infantry who occupy over 280,000 acres and probably 20,000. Sad news of local young men who die in Iraq frequent our news.

In the US James Bond is immensly popular, maybe because so many of us have our roots in England and Europe. He emboldens the fantasy of spies and foreign intrigue. They need to assign him to solve some problems in the Middle East I believe.

Re: Anyone see new "Casino Royale" Bond movie?

I'm beginning to think it's just me that thinks this film sucks.

I've read so many reviews on how good it is, and how "Bond has gone back to his roots".

I watched it, and I thought it was just like a 100 other action movies you can rent on DVD today.

Bond to me is cheesy, it does have fantasy gadgets, silly one-liners, inuendos galore, crazy bad guys with satellites, a sterotype heroine who is good for nothing else than to be Bonds plaything...

This is what Bond has been like for over 20 years, this is what people have grown up on, and this is what people expect.

I think once the hype dies down, people will see this for what it really is, and that is an average action movie that has strayed too far from the Bond formula that has made is such a success for so many years.

Thumbs up Re: Anyone see new "Casino Royale" Bond movie?

Best one we have seen for a long time - this judgement may be clouded by the number of times I have had to watch the old ones!

Re: Anyone see new "Casino Royale" Bond movie?

Disagree with Alpha entirely on this one. Best Bond film in 20 years. I was never a fan of the exaggerated gizmos and unbelievable hyber-villains which has become more and more the Bond series' retreat since the end of the Cold War. This was more of Bond with substance, and amusing to see this as a reset of the series. Excited to see more.
