Registering dot JP

I wanted to register a dot JP to assess the traffic. I have only managed to identify one prime target, but I attempted to register through an Enom retailer, where the price for JP was very competitive, but it was rejected after an extended period of time, as Enom doesn't support IDN in this extension!

The cheapest I have seen Japanese IDN available with an English interface is $140. Can anyone do better than that? I believe they sell for around 7,000 Yen in Japan.

The good and bad news is that there is obviously high levels of speculation in dot JP.

The question I have got answered, is whether there is traffic on these domain?

Best Regards
Dave Wrixon

Re: Registering dot JP

You can register .jp domains with an English interface at http://www.jp-domains.com/

You can also get to the above site via my easy-to-remember affiliate link at http://www.japanesedomains.com/

They offer .jp domains for $75/year for the first domain, then $60/year for 2+ domains. They accept credit cards and Paypal payment (one of the only .jp registrars I know who does). Don't be alarmed if registrations take a few hours to process, especially Paypal ones - they don't seem to operate in realtime.

They also make it relatively easy to change the ownership of a .jp domain - in fact, one way to transfer ownership would be to transfer the domain in from a different (harder to transfer) registrar then do the ownership change there... a bit like the old Network Solutions days when they were still on notarised faxes when the rest of the world had moved on.

I have about 20 domains with them so am fairly familiar with the service.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, Did not manage to go through your site as it would not come up. Don't think affiliate program will work for IDN until they get the new interface working as this one won't do anything with IDN.

Whilst, the site at JP-Domains does not cope with IDN, the Support Team will get them registered for you. Really helpful and you can get TWO for ONE on IDN so I paid $37.50 which seems really good. Email response on IDN registrations:

Dear Dave Wrixon,

Thank you very much for purchasing the domains.

We are currently working on a new system for purchasing JP IDN domains.
We appologize for the current inconvenience, however, at the moment, we are accepting
registrations by email.

As soon as the new system is available, which we plan to release in November, JP IDN domains
will be available online.

Our pricing structure will be the following:
1st and 2nd JP IDN domains: $75 per pair
Every 2 JP IDN domains afterwards: $60 per pair

All renewals for .JP Domains are $50 per single domain.

We will be publicly announcing the new pricing structure once the system is ready.

We appologize for the current inconvenience, and thank you for choosing JP-Domains.com.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel
free to contact us and we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you.
Sincerely,
Michael Yukai

Re: Registering dot JP

Yeah. I checked also.

I have a question. Is there any place you can register 2 char. .jp's? It would be worth the money for a few of them. Thanks.

Re: Registering dot JP

All of those services should offer 2 character .jp...
Are you having a problem with inputting them or are they not accepting them?

Re: Registering dot JP

Well I tried to imput them and it said please put 3 chars.

I have tried other sites as well such as Idotz.net. and they only accept 3 char jp domains.

The only place that does is Domainsite but they don't do IDN.jp.

That's why I was asking.

Thanks.
Sarcle.

Re: Registering dot JP

If its not accepting 2 characters, it will be because it is not IDN enabled.

Re: Registering dot JP

Argh. I should've remembered to check this forum. I just registered .jp for $199 for 2 years. Darn it.

BTW, my easy to remember redirect is working again [hint, hint]. Thank you to all those who proactively alerted them about me...

Re: Registering dot JP

I went through your link and checked names for a couple of hours and came away unsuccessful :-[

I noticed that quite a few .jp names already resolve to websites, albeit via redirects; it seems to me that .jp is maturing nicely.
