Push for Welsh .cym domain

Campaigners are pressing for a new .cym web address for Welsh language websites. The dotCYM campaign has been set up to lobby for a dedicated country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) for Wales and spokesman Sion Jobbins recently attended the seventh ICANN Studienkreis in Prague speak in support of the proposed domain.
Ping Wales reports that the dotCYM campaign follows a similar and successful push on behalf of the Catalan Community by organisation puntCAT. Mr Jobbins argues that the Welsh linguistic and cultural community should be provided with a TLD to validate and promote Welsh culture.
The web campaigner said that the recent recognition the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) of the need for the Internet to cater for different languages and alphabets helped to strengthen dotCYM's cause.
