Godaddy is widely known for it's shoot now ask questions later approach and it's pro-corporate anti-user views.

Good for them for pulling the plug on someone posting PRIVATE user names and PASSWORDS.

Something wrong! My sympathies are with Godaddy. How did that happen?

Re: Godaddy bends over backwards for big business

The bottom line is registrars need to stay out of the content business and the legal issues that are suround it.

Re: Godaddy bends over backwards for big business

It can't be possibly right for a registrar to delete a domain name without notice because of dubious content on the web site the domain was pointing to. For instance, what if the web site was hacked and the owner had no idea about the dubious content?

Re: Godaddy bends over backwards for big business

The real issue seems to be greed and an excuse to collect $250...

I had over 20 domains registered with godaddy for various clients. One of my clients was sending Opt-In email lists from his domain which generated some complaints and godaddy responded by suspending all my domains including the domains of a high school band and a pet rescue organazation that I hosted. They then refused to even let me transfer the domains to another registrar until I paid them $250.00 per domain name "suspension fee".

Domainwire writes:

That attitude should make people think twice about registering domains with the company. I suspect that, although its in the terms and conditions, it’s not GoDaddy’s policy to terminate access to services for any reason.

Generally speaking, a domain registrar supplies the domain but the content is hosted with the webhost. A webhost should be responsible for complying with requests to remove copyrighted content and remove sites that violate the law.

QUOTE: MySpace demanded that GoDaddy pull the plug on Seclists.org, which hosts some 250,000 pages of mailing list archives and other resources, because a list of thousands of MySpace usernames and passwords was archived on the site.

REASON GODADDY SHUT THE SITE (TEMPORARILY) DOWN:
"Thousands of MySpace usernames and passwords was archived on the site".

I want to know how the informtion got on the website, and who put it there...and how they got passwords from the MySpace databanks. Given how many "underage" kids are on there someone could really go crazy posting up lewd photos etc. on various user websites since most probably didn't even know their personal info had been breached. Given the situation, GoDaddy probably erred on the side of caution. I am sure they took into consideration that this was basically an informational website, not one critical to urgent services or safety.

The site was an automated archive of email discussion lists that shared security information.

Godaddy suspends a domain that runs names servers for 600+ domain names.

Nasty.

So which Registrar would "never" do anything like what GoDaddy did?
