Hello

You have a very nice forum here.

I have been into the IDN scene since I snagged www.©.com and www.®.com in 2002 I recently backed those up by aquiring www.©®.com and www.©®.net. Most of the domains that I have purchased in the past have been a little a head of their time, example www.classified.ad ad, so I knew that I would have to play the waiting game with these as well.

When IE 7 is rolled out we should see a real boost in traffic to every IDN that we hold.

Nice to be a part of a group of like minded people.

Hi Joey:

Nice looking names but I cann't see a button on the keyboard to type them ..

Hope you enjoy your stay here.

Duke 27th January 2006 12:34 AM

Just signed up when I saw that I could be member #100. I thought that might win me a door prize, like my choice of one IDN domain from each existing member. :)

g 27th January 2006 12:40 AM

Hi Duke,

Are you the same Duke of dnjournal.com?! ..... anyway you are most welcomed .... check your pm ... I have just sent you a little gift ..... haha ...enjoy:)

That's a nasty rumor people spread to try to keep their friends from associating with me. :)

...and thanks for the tip!

Olney 27th January 2006 01:57 AM

Truth is I think we all realize if you snag a good IDN & sell it we are all rollin' on dubs in 2 years max...
:p

kenne 27th January 2006 01:57 AM

I'm from US, bilingual in Chinese. Total newbie (no domain experience at all). registered duds (now I think) before i stumbled here (thanks everyone for ropes and tips). I have:

北.cn (north)
医.cn (medical)
土地.cn (land)
联网.cn (variation of internet)
馈赠.com (gift)
闪盘.com (flash card, I'm trying to sell this one)

And a few others. Oh, And I have ADHD (acquisitive domain hoarding disorder, a term coined by domo sapiens and hellam_david), and this board is making it worse....

Timm 27th January 2006 02:48 AM

Hi, I am Tim from Germany - probably the first from continental Europe :)

As many others I startet "talking IDNs" when the verisign/NSI testbed opened in early 2001 but concentrating on german IDNs only.

As you might know, there are german characters that are not part of the ASCII set: The german "umlauts" (Ää,Öö,Üü). Before the implementations of IDNs those had to be paraphrased by the original character plus an "e" (ae,oe,ue).

In March 2004, also the ccTLDs of Germany (.de), Switzerland (.ch) and Austria (.at) (all german-speaking), all introduced those umlaut characters.

As of now, my IDN portfolio consists of about 250 .com and the same amount in .de, and already had a couple of good sales. (no- not übersetzer.de ;) )

I also owned about 50 chinese, japanese, korean and russian ONE CHARACTER IDNs, but I let them drop a year later - NO TRAFFIC! I just checked them for the first time - most if them were immediately re-registered. That tells me I made a mistake when deleting those names.

Neverthess I cant wait for the IE7 to become available!

Looking forward to interesting discussions on this board!!

kenne 27th January 2006 02:53 AM

Genius!

Are you saying we should or should NOT stay under the radar? You were the one to give me idea to register 情色小說. In the process, I discovered how literate the taiwanese is. apparently their novel search is x times their corresponding graphics/video searches. figure that out!

I surrendered my credit cards to my wife. Hopefully that should stop me for a while :)

Awesome, im saying we should stay UNDER the radar... I dont want the Big Dawgs coming in Taking our names.... This is better than the Dot com Boom in my opinion Because we are aquiring these names at Reg fee.... early in the dot com game names were 45 a year x2- up to 500 x2years.... I hate for them to spoil the hunting ....... I should apply for a C Card with a 50k limit and spend every last cent... Anybdoy think that would be wise ?

Olney 27th January 2006 05:08 AM

You are wayyyy too late to think about us staying under the radar.
The senior members of the forum already have premium portfolios in various languages & I admit probably 40% of the traffic is coming from the fact that they are all pointing their domains to the forum.
The new signups are coming from dnJournal also...

The senior members know the gate has opened & are spreading the love...

You have nothing to gain if we stay under the radar...

All I'll say is we get over 200 "NEW Unique" eyes a day, not counting regulars or repeat traffic.

Guilty. I do have another temporary card :)

But I'm not planning to max out on it, simply not that many good ones left and I'm cautious about venturing into languages I don't understand. Will keep my day job (if I can, re: ADHD)

And then when i Seen the .Com was Available and the .Net was gone i knew i Hit the Jackpot... had to be a Drop.........Good luck with your name !

donwebcorleone 28th January 2006 07:50 PM

i was just reading this thread and i really find that it is amazing the gems that you guys have! a guy mentioned he has "car" in japanese, i guess thats awesome!

about me, i already said grad student at Todai, which in this IDN world means nothing, and i guess my only advantage now (i hope so) is that i understand 7 languages, so i can try to grab IDNs underdeveloped markets. my plan is to transfer many of my 2000 .com portafolio into hundreds of IDNs during January/February and then start growing into even 10.000 in a short time. I guess my bank account will go from xxx.xxx to -x  buying IDNs these days! thank god! im not married to use my money as i please.

i must admit i wanna receive my invitation to T.r.a.f.f.i.c 2007 as an Asian Domainer! we will see who among us make it!

Hello Everyone from Shanghai

Hello guys,

I really got motivated to write this post given the fact right now we're 'only' 120 members. I'm 35, from Argentina, living in Shanghai since last year. I came to study chinese (extremely hard, let me tell you) and got interested in the IDN domains (for the time being only interested in chinese domains).

I've got a couple of ideas about how to participate in the "IDN revolution" that to me came a bit late (end of 2005), thanks in great deal to Dave's posts.

So I'm here in Shanghai (I lived 2 years in the US, 1 year in Belgium and a couple of months in Brazil) so anything you need me, I'm more than willing to give the members of this forum a hand.
Yeah, translation is hard, and also the cultural thing is hard. Very exciting times, in China, and in IDN domains!

Gonzalo
PS: One idea I have is IDNmarketplace.com where people can go and offer their domains for sale, and others can go an name a price for the domains they want. What you think?

Paul_Kuhn 30th January 2006 10:32 AM

Moin Moin, as we say in Hamburg/Germoney;)

best of luck most ppl at dnforum see thru a brick wall and can't seem to grasp the importance of IDN. Hopefully they'll become IDN domainers

I'm an IDN newbie.

I have joined today.

I want your help in how to register and how to find total names register in any language.

My favorite Idn sector would be Indian domains.

I don't have any name as of now.

Hope to do something good :)

Thanks for hosting this forum and thanks to all members for your informative posts.

After being suckered in by WorldNames a few years ago, I've been a bit gun-shy about getting involved in foreign character domains again. This and other forums inspired me to read up and learn more about IDNs. It looks like international domains have a real chance to finally make it big this time with IDN.

Of course, my initial hesitation caused me to miss out on the cream of the crop, but I'm happy to still be able to pick up a few solid middle-of-the-road general terms.

Here's hoping IDNs have a bright future! (Also hoping that I don't go broke before that day comes.)

moe 9th February 2006 10:41 PM

Hi

:) Hi

Nice forum

I don't know anything about IDN names.

I'm here to learn....

I'm still new at this and will let you guys know when I make my first purchase of an IDN. I am currently researching and this forum is great for IDN info.

I mainly want to target China, because of the internet population - China's Internet population will overtake US internet population by 3 times in the next five years in my opinion.

I will discuss internet population in another thread, but for now I just want to say howdy doody

sarcle 9th February 2006 11:39 PM

Hello Moe. Welcome. Hope you like the place. You will find lots of valuable info here. How did you find the place? just curious. Anyways good luck.

nice forums...

Hello! Nice forum !

My name is lee in computer science and management.
Although I am in Korea, I have a plan to move to States after a few years.

I had registered IDNs over 300 in Korean very first time.
Past 5~6 years, 250 of them were dropped and only 50 are remained.

Point of my view, I barely sell them but also waiting for type_in_traffic after ie7 and win xp sp3 out.

I have such a 음악.com(music), 모바일.com(mobile), 러시아.com(Russia), 커피.com(coffee), 은행대출.com(bankloan), 생명보험.com(lifeinsurance).

If I have a new info, I’ll post it.
Thanks

Wow! You got the best .com domains from an industrialized country than anyone of us here got! music, mobile, bankloan, lifeinsurance!

I've got a good one, but .net - map.net in Hangul.

Hi,

I 'm DABSI leaving in Germany; discovered the IDN market some 3 years ago.
I had some doubt last year, but now I'm certain it will change te rules more than color tv did; traffic (and revenues) resulting from french IDN are the reasons why we have created cyberfrik.com

Re: IDN Forum Members - Introduce Yourself

Hey all!

I'm an Aussie, and have been domaining with blog .com's for around a year. Recently though, I got hooked on IDN's when I first stumbled upon IDNforums. Now it's goodbye life - helloooo IDN's!

The rest of my .com portfolio seems like utter rot now compared to those glorious, gold laden, IDN mountains that you guys have introduced me to! Olney, I owe you a drink...and if IDN's make me enuff $$$, I'm gonna' fly to your place in my own Lear & buy a beer :)

Initially, I was targeting .jp's, and some examples of my portfolio are:

dvd-rw.jp
金御.jp (gold)
御金.jp (money)
金貸し.jp (money lender)
車購入.jp (car purchase)
漫画家.jp (cartoonist, manga artist)

Then, I thought I'd better diversify a little, and so I went the way of the .Kom with:

одна.com (one)
две.com (two)
четыре.com (four)
пять.com (five)
шесть.com (six)
семь.com (seven)
восемь.com (eight)
девять.com (nine)
десять.com (ten)

and finally, a nice Korean one too:

아홉.com (nine - lucky number)

I have many more than this, but I really just want to say that I wouldn't have have had the foggiest clue where to start if it wasn't for the tools & info on this forum.

Therefore, a massive thanx is in order to you Olney for your time & efforts - you are greatly appreciated by myself, and the growing number of users on this site. May you profit abundantly for your endevours, dude!

Finally, any corrections or coments, particularly on the future value of numeric IDN's, would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Re: IDN Forum Members - Introduce Yourself

Hi,

Had been lurking around for a while and finally made my move.

Interesting that this intro is in a thread instead of a separate forum like most others.

Domain is not new to me but I had resisted domain "investing" for a long time. I decided to give it a try last year. So far I spend more than I make. One of my friend is a serial domain buyer. But I had never heard him mention anything. Is domain name one of the best kept secret? I'm finding out soon...

My best domain so far is whois.la. Still I think I paid too much for it and I had too high expectation of it's potential. I have plan but no time to execute.

It is amazing how people can register all the IDN without know a word of the language. For me I will just focus on Chinese.

glad to join you guys!

John W 28th March 2006 05:46 PM

Re: IDN Forum Members - Introduce Yourself

OK, I've been participating already but happened across the intro thread, so I'll introduce myself.

My name's John (surprise!) and I was inspired to wonder whether there was a technology that would allow people to type web addresses in their native scripts after sitting down last year to try and put together a thank-you note, in Russian, to a man in Russia... a note which, I'm ashamed to admit, I haven't yet gotten in the mail! :o (Note to myself: I need to find this again and actually mail it!)

Compared to a lot of the big dogs here, I don't have a lot of domains... only a bit over 100, in several different languages. (I went through a really awful time financially in the past years, and definitely had limited financial means at my disposal when I was registering my domains; or I would've registered more.)

Favorite domains (I'll limit myself to 2 in each language)

Arabic:
سلام.com -- salaam.com
الاُمّة.com -- al-Umma.com

Chinese:
行业.net -- "industry or business".net
婚事.com -- "wedding or marriage".com

Russian: (okay, three :) )
полеты.com -- flights.com
инфо.com -- info.com
жизнь.com -- life.com

Thai:
ห้องเช่า.com -- apartments.com
อสังหาริมทรัพย์.net -- realestate.net

Hindi:
पैसा.com -- money.com
जान.com -- love.com

Hey everyone,

I've come to this forum, because, frankly, my knowledge of IDNs is patchy, and I'd like to learn. It seems this is a constructive and friendly place to do so.

Looking forward to talking with you all,
Mike.
