Thanks for the warning. Totally agree with you. If it was a good name, they wouldn't be trying to sell lists to people.

Any other languages that you guys would recommend? How would you rate them from the best to worst?

Re: IDN Forum Members - Introduce Yourself

You need to look at populations and GDPs, especially on a PPP basis.

You need to consider where the really opportunities lie. Chinese and Japanese have been heavily mined. Arabic and Russian to a lesser extent and Hindi, hardly at all.

Don't just consider your options in the primary market. Remember Frank Schilling bought just about everything from Snapnames. Fresh regging is not the only valid option.

In Edwin's case, I don't agree. He presented a very cogent argument why he was selling the list (domain list, not keyword list). He doesn't need to scam anyone.

If you believe that in 10 years IDNs will be the predominant type of domains used in non-English speaking countries, then massive opportunities exist in *all* the markets.

Fresh regging is probably very time consuming and hard work now, especially if you don't speak the language, and you certainly won't get any premium terms that way unless you drift off into languages like Elvish.

So you either reg lots of lesser terms or try and acquire premium terms on the aftermarket, either via Snapnames, from the current owner, or from the occassional sale/auction in forums.

Funny story there. Took the dog out for a walk along our street, and let a couple of kids play with him. We had a bit of a chat and one of the kids said "phii, thamay naa muen farang leey?", which roughly translates as "Sir, why is your face like a westerners?" i.e. from listening to me speak she actually thought I was Thai but with a westerner's face ... so definitely "getting there"!

Thanks for asking. I am appx 5 or 6 miles from the line of the fire. Have packed up some papers and such if it moves in my direction. Watching on tv to see the latest.
There are presently 4+ fires in Southern California, with erratic winds, high temps, and low humidity until Wednesday. The firefighters, and water dropping aircraft are doing a great job, but currently the fire is out of control with 0% containment.

Don't want to clutter the thread, but WOW. It's going to be tough to put out that fire. With the winds going on in Malibu right now I really wish them to best of luck! Hope nothing bad happens.

Smile Re: IDN Forum Members - Introduce Yourself

Hello everyone,

I am Japanese who was born and brought up in suburban Tokyo.
Currently, I am running approximately 30 Japanese IDN websites.

It was about a year ago that I started building websites using IDNs.

About this IDN forum, I have known about it for quite a while.
I joined the forum to get to know people with whom I may want to trade some of my IDNs in the future.
I am starting to be hit by renewal fees now, and unless Japanese type-ins grow quickly enough, I will be forced to sell some of my IDNs to whoever's willing to pay some decent money.

Well, that's the reason I joined the forum. But now that I read a number of past threads, i see more value to the forum than my initial expectations. there are really nice folks here. I admire those who give away valuable information without expecting financial returns. and if that's the nature of this forum, i would be happy to make some small contributions, too, despite not financial one :-).

I look forward to exchanging information and ideas with you.

Cheers to all,
Ryu

p/s i am afraid i would not reveal what IDNs i currently own, unless it is for the purpose of selling. I am pretty scared to be labeled as a cybersquatter for being a member of this forum (many japanese see no difference between domaining and squatting, and so does JPRS, i suspect). also, there have been cases of 2-channers criticising japanese domainers. i fear their potential attacks to my adsense and parking sites.

Hi Ryu. You'll find there are many members here from many different countries speaking many different tongues - however there has always been a lack of native Japanese members (and nobody has quite figured out why LOL), so I think you should expect a warm welcome here.

cyber-squatting is what domainers are called by those who don't know any better.
Domainers come in all shapes, sizes, colours and nationalities

The labeling of domainers as cybersquatters is in no way restricted or more prevalent with Japanese people; we are reviled and vilified universally. My feeling is that in most cases this behaviour is either motivated by jealousy or communisn.

What is a 2-channer?

It's a notorious BBS in Japan & the reason why you can't expect many Japanese to use forums.

You said communism? Do you know domaining in a communist country like China is about registering company names and trademark so that you can hold them as ransom? Google paid 1 million to buy back google.cn.

I meant communism in the sense that all property is owned by the state and distributed for use on an as-needed basis. I think you knew darn well what I meant.

China is only communist on the surface, I suspect. I see quite a lot of capitalism coming out of China these days.

Advice from a guy who I have a feeling has never bought a list.

IMO he is giving you bad advice. I have bought lists probably 5 times, and have probably spent a few thousand dollars total. They CAN be worth every penny in saving time and giving you lists of available regs. Sure there might be some shitty lists out there, but there are also somw good ones that guys have 100's of hours of work into sorting, scoring, overture, bids, serp etc.
If you are buying 5 or 10 names don't but a list. But if you are going for hundreds or thousands...it may be well worth the cost.

Wanna see some recent "list" regs. I reg'd these recently off a list sold to me by forum member Alphamale.
This is just a section of the list..... "H" thru "P's"....based on the quantity of .jp names I reg'd the list cost me $1 per name registered. That works out to adding about 5% to the investment. That is not only cheap, but an incredible DEAL just in time savings alone.
