Please appraise: シーフード.jp - "seafood".jp

シーフード.jp - "seafood".jp

I just found this one and it seemed good to me, seeing how Japan is the largest seafood market in the world...

Rating from 1 to 10, please.

Also, comments on the translation are welcome if it's not correct.

Might even be good to do some development on this one...

Re: Please appraise: シーフード.jp - "seafood".jp

I thought that was a great one too - but I never regged it.

Less than 700 OVT shows it is hardly searched, which put me off.

But as a brandable URL you'd think it would be a winner.

The thing is this though - many guys from this forum had ample opportunity to reg this many times over and left it.

I wonder why?...

There are still stronger terms out there.

I was just sitting down with a local friend, taught him how to register domains and he registered Revenue.jp in Japanese.

Olney has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Re: Please appraise: シーフード.jp - "seafood".jp

Written in katakana wouldn't be the top way to express it.
No one would say let's have "seafood" tonight since the culture is mainly seafood.
They would tend to say the dozens of varieties of kinds of "seafood" related places they go.

Re: Please appraise: シーフード.jp - "seafood".jp

yes there are some out there still.

i just found this 立体駐車場.jp

it means multi-storey car park, or maybe those mechanical lift type high rise car parks.

ovt isn't too high, but bids are pretty good.

Perfect example of cultural differences that make IDN'ing such a challenge.

The smart IDN domainers research well before regging or buying.

Yeah - I've got a list of free .jp's I've been adding to over the last couple of weeks.

Nothing killer, but some nice stuff.

Won't be long and someone will scoop them up no doubt...

What do you consider as the min for OVT?

I think opinions on that will vary wildly dependant on the term, the language, development possibilities, and who you speak to.

As far as the Japanese language goes, I realy know nothing. I am not a very good domainer either, let alone an IDN domainer, so my advice won't count for too much.

All I can really say is do your research.

Don't be put off straight away by low OVT. But be certain you know what you are registering though, and make sure it is has a potential end use.

Re: Please appraise: シーフード.jp - "seafood".jp

Not a bad one for a Japanese company trying to add an international flavour to their name, without really being international. As is often the case with katakana names.

Re: Please appraise: シーフード.jp - "seafood".jp

It does vary by the IDNer but at this point my own opinion is roughly:
over 500,000 ovt w/ bids = wow amazing
over 100,000 ovt w/bids = golden
over 50,000 ovt w/bids = good
over 5,000 to 20,000 ovt w/bids = acceptable
over 1,000 to 5,000 ovt with multiple 100 yen + bids on bid tool = acceptable
under 1,000 with multiple 500 yen + bids on bid tool = acceptable

Note this is only for .com and .net because of their pricing. I adjust somewhat for the size of the bet with .jp. PS - I break these guidelines all the time.
