Tokyo is a rich man's playground. Expect to pay more.

You have to think of it the same way dot coms were in the late 90's
I only had the choice of paying $70 a year from Network Solutions
Lowering the prices recently is to get people to start using IDN.jp
It's up to the domain service sites to determine the price.
They don't want to lower it even though they have a huge discount.

For business services they could care less about lowering the price because they already have the corporate accounts...

(Forgot to write)
I think some domain sites will offer discounts for a while...
I've emailed some of them even they don't know how long they will offer discounted prices but they will continue as long as they can.
It's good for the market..

ya i think so to. something like that could be a budget killer if not well planned for ! :)
ya i think possibly in the future they might go like .com and start permanently dropping prices hopefully but it is good for the market i wish i could renew more than one year ahead.
