Computer giant Dell will start to sell PCs preinstalled with open source Linux operating systems, the firm has said.
The second largest computer maker in the world said it had chosen to offer Linux in response to customer demand.

Earlier this year, 100,000 people took part in a Dell survey. More than 70% of respondents said they would use Linux....

Cool. What it means for IDNs, though, is that the web browser Firefox will only show .coms as punycode. That is, unless you are knowledgeable enough to go into about:config and change some parameters, and self-certain enough to ignore the homograph attack warnings. This information is not easy to find, either.

.nets are working ok. FF team just has a hard-on for the .com registry since they allow mixed script regs, where the specific scripts which are mixed are not found within normal usage of any language.

Off topic here but I had to mention this:

The adsense ad on top of the page promotes justducks.co.uk and has pics of two ducks.

So not only did it pick up on the thread starter's name, it knows where he lives, and has pictures of him in various outfits.

That's what I call targeted advertising :)

70% of the people voted for Linux? I'm not a hater, I have nothing against Linux, but I find that number to be highly exaggerated.

70% of Tech Savvy computer enthusiasts but not your average joe!
