And whilst we are no the subject why would these people be building their brand on IDN.com if they thought it were a complete waste of time?

It is all down to site quality and who is making the sites. Yes there are millions of junk sites and millions of blogs and millions of small inconsequential business.

If you go through this list it soon becomes apparent that is not what we talking about here. We are talking about major corporations investing significant time and capital in developing quality IDN.com. They are not Forwarded domains, and I don't believe they are the original ASCII site with some kind of super stealth forwarding, as some tried to suggest but then as ever conveniently made no attempt to explain what they meant.

Before doing this each and everyone of these companies would have done a total review of their branding strategies before proceding. These companies have decided to brand on dot com because that is what they see to be the cornerstone of their online marketing strategies.

You may mock this evidence, but where exactly is your evidence to the contrary? What do you base all your assertions on? On this side of the argument we keep heaping up the evidence. How do you back your assertions?

How do you back your assertions?

on common sense. that means not seeing things just because you want to see them, or jumping to conclusions because it suits your needs.

the first example in the list.

here's their ascii version. http://www.runner-corp.com.cn/

ask yourself this question:

If you were running a business, would you go out of your way to disadvantage your business by only using an IDN, when all your competitors are using ascii that can be accessed by everyone TODAY?

..of course not, you'd be f*cking stupid.

would you dual run them, yes - for sure, why not, what harm can it do.

so you see my problem is not that i do not believe; it's just you are painting a picture that we are way way more advanced than we really are.

Large corporates also using an IDN is good news, they are seizing the initiative - but it doesn't signal that the end of ascii use and the dawn of IDN is here... not yet at least - we have years left to go.

Yes, well you cannot win around here. Olney is telling me that you could not dual run them because of his SEO theories.

Yes, until browser support is there of course they will be dual run. I never said they wouldn't neither did anyone else that is arguing that DNAME is not essential.

What you have said is that without DNAME these are a complete waste of time, which would on the face of it be a very sound argument for not dual running with them or even bothering your arse to do anything at all.

There is a lot of motivation involved in doing all of this it is being done at the top level in what are obviously some of the most competitive companies in China. You are trying to tell me all this is occurring virtually by accident. Frankly, I am beginning to think I would get more sense out of the crowd at Namepros!

i'm saying rubbish. they are not branding themselves on idn.com, they simply have a mirrored site (however that is done)

that is not the same as abandoning the ascii site and throwing everything at branding an idn.

Well when somebody else actually showed you a clear example of what you are now asking for your were equally dismissive.

didn't Edwin post about one of these "IDN in the wild" over a year ago?

i don't remember that being heralded as the worm turning

http://www.idnforums.com/forums/5591-a-japanese-idn-com-live-in-the-wild.html?highlight=wild

and genius, give it a rest posting the same photo time and time again. remember it was you who posted this:

http://www.idnforums.com/forums/2895-idn-billioniare-on-the-horizen.html?highlight=billionaire

i think what is needed is that you both take a dose of reality followed by a shot of common sense - and maybe just a little patience to wash it all down with.

Yes, but what has always been missing in Japan is the big heavy weight corporate sites. One Thai restaurant was never going to make much of a splash.

ok.

the thing is, it doesnt matter what we say here, it's only the few people who read this forum that will be convinced or otherwise.

what will happen, will happen - we will make no difference at all.

I know you think i'm just trying to talk down .com so i can buy cheap - well i think certain people are doing the exact opposite.

but it doesnt matter either way. we are living in a bubble here, and it won't make any difference to the outcome.

No, I totally agree, what we say or do here will have no impact in Asia.

I have always said that speculator development would not significantly impact the market and it won't.

Of course Branding will go to IDN.com if IDN.IDN is not available. Yes, and of course if IDN.IDN comes in IDN.com will be phased out.

I thought .com is a purely american craze.
In UK they're just as happy with .uk.co
In russia it's .ru
And so forth.
We did make the world sing rock lyrics in English once.
Are we going to do the same with the web too?

I hear Chinese are going to assert themselves as a superpower. Swallow Siberia and teach everybody Mandarin.

I prefer New England apples.
;)
