The organisation behind the .eu domain has suspended 10,000 domain names registered by a Chinese woman whom it accuses of being a cybersquatter. The woman, in retaliation, has filed a lawsuit in Belgium.

EURid, the Belgium-based registry for .eu domain names, has blocked the names and has the right to strip the woman, Zheng Qingyin, of the names. EURid legal manager, Herman Sobrie, told OUT-LAW, though, that the organisation wanted to have a court strip Qingyin of the addresses. He said that case would take about a year

Wow - they are making a clear statement... do not invest in .eu names unless you are developing them and live in the European Union.

74,000 domains in the past year have been suspended... guess means there are not too many investors left in .eu's.

Interesting post - cheers, Asiaplay

Well it got off to a terrible start, and they were so slow about taking any corrective action. I can't imagine this having any effect at this late stage. The extension is doomed to permanent mediocrity IMO. But at least they've got that - .asia may not even rise to that level.

Now you can't sell your .EU names. No PPC, no Sell, what do you do?

.ccTLD domains are only as good as the governments that own them. In the case of the EU, it becomes more complicated.

I think the problem is that dot EU addresses nobodys aspirations.

It does not address a global market, nor does it address a specific linguistic or cultural group. In short, it is a busted flush.

I see .eu and .asia being about as popular as .int . Hell, there are probably many of you that didn't even know about an extension called .int !

Yes I agree with you.
It's why I dropped all my .eu. I see no future in it.
I see more future in very very local extensions (.paris, .berlin...) than in eu which is not really global & nor really local. IMHO

For my opinion only few keys can go very well with eu, ie: all vacacion related (hotel, travel...) and maybe some international megakey as poker or casino....

I completely agree. This also applies to a couple other things going on regarding other subjects. A little busy, but will explain later.
