View Full Version : So...what's the chatter re: IDNs on other forums and blogs lately?

With a big week behind us with IDNs making major worldwide press and ICANN testing is in progress,
what is the feeling about the latest chatter on the various forums and blogs regarding IDN rollout?
I put up the two posts at DNF from the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal and hardly a peep.

I posted it at one forum and helped add a new member here. Many people seem interested, but few have the foreign language skills or the guts to go for it.

I think that most domainers just don't know what to think.

I saw it posted at IDNclub.com and idnf.ru - any action there?

Well, it might be worth mentioning that some of us that are doing tolerably well don't have the "necessary" foreign language skills either.

The Duck's single biggest innovation was the discovery of Free Online Translation Services.

Its news but its not "sexy enough" if you know what I mean. If it were news that an IDN had sold for a million dollars then sure, it would grab peoples' attention, but it isn't, its just news of an IDN testbed.

Bottom line is that 95% of domainers want to be Rick Schwartz and they believe if they do as he tells them that will happen. The usual business rational of studying the market for opportunities and threats somehow just goes out of the window. It is difficult to differentiate Traffics from one of the TV channel mega healing sessions you get from the Southern Baptist Churches.

I noticed that on many foreign DN forums the IDN topic is either taboo or just simply ignored.

Just for hell of it i put some top-notch cyrillic generics for 'appraisal' on the russian forum. First, they got angry & pissed. After that they appraised' them as 'reg fee' or 'negative'.

There was a talk of banning people for displaying 'cyrillics'.

Also, their moderator, who's a member here, removed those postings, saying they' re ' inapropriate'.

Don't sweat it. Ignorance by the domain masses has allowed us to create the bulging quality portfolios we have today. It will just take one big sale to start the landslide. I predict this will only happen once the whole IDN.IDN situation becomes clearer. Investors hate uncertainty. So hopefully 2008...

So if IDN have no future, why do all these people feel so angered and embittered when you talk about them? Surely they should just feel pity or is there perhaps a little honesty lacking here somewhere. Perhaps the Russians also feel that that the success of their ASCII are going to be extrapolated through India, China and Japan? Or perhaps they feel their little empire is about to implode around them?

Not so fast.

The other day I wrote about our court experience with a TM-related domain.
It was written in totally neutral tone. Just a matter of fact.
And yet i was attacked right here for 'moral degradation' & 'poor ethics', etc.

Russian IDNs are on the move and getting the best traffic "currently" in my portfolio.
The majority are still poking along, but some are really starting to move.

This Russian IDN has already made $20.58 in the last 13 days (Oct 1-13).
Thats $ 576.13 on an annual basis and traffic is still nowhere near developed.
October month to date:
дноклассники(dot)com US $20.58; 1842 visits; 660 clicks; 35.83% click thru; US$ 0.03 ppc (was .12 in months past)

Doesn't sound very 'matter of fact' to me

A lot of US & European TMs are NOT registered in Asia.
They are fair game. Nobody mentioned your ethics .. or lack of, same goes for your morals .. or lack of

Simple enough question ... Who removed your posts?
Maybe you could inform us of the forum this happened at as well so we are aware of it?

Which member of this site runs russian language domain forums and told you that IDN appraisal threads are innappropriate?

There simply aren't that many russians on this forum, so any of us can probably find out who it is with just a bit of searching this site.

Now, why don't you just paste the links to your appraisal threads on the russian forum? Playing these kind of games without going the last step and divulging the information certainly won't help you to gain any acceptance here.

I can concur with that, but there is absolutely on interest in the retail market. I think the Russian Portfolio will start to support the rest very soon, with a bit of help from Japan.

You have to assume that people would actually be arsed to go and read about some dead russian.

Like, "What does that have to do with IDN discussions on other forums and blogs?"

If you were trying to make a point, just state your point.

By the way, how did Blast's post disappear?

Anyway, to restate the question for all here, "So...what's the chatter re: IDNs on other forums and blogs lately?"

I just do a quick search for "IDN" on other forums to help out those who still don't know what they are. I made a post @ DP and my PM box exploded with PMs from people who can't seem to grasp what the hell IDNs are.

According to my shrink friend 'Pavlik Morozov' is a very potent symbol eliciting powerful emotions. You can tell whether the person is a 'liberal' or a 'bolshevik' depending on his/her responses.
And by the way, JC & Mohammed are dead too. And yet folks read about'em.

How very interesting.

So, why didn't you just say that the Mod was named Jesus or Mohammed?

Same reaction:

1. This is just silly.
2. Why has this thread transformed so?
3. What is your point?

You are starting to sound a little strange, dude.

The point was that I posted some of my IDNs on a bunch of DN forums only to find out that the 'natives' were extremely upset about it.

But I wouldn't say that their reactions are totally out of whack.
Look what happened here!

There are extremists on both sides.

And they all want you dead!

I offer an olive branch: Let's coexist in peace.
