Personally, I like the second one, Michael.

Very Nice design IMHO.

2nd one - the more photos the better (as makes it more interesting!!!)...

I would also add the categories as a horizontal list across the bottom and alt tag them (alt tag every item for better SEO text content - as photos otherwise are redundant and there is not much text on the page otherwise... and the list so that people can see at a glance what is available and click on).
Namely: the categories you showed as headings to the right of the smaller icons on the first photo option.

I would also slightly increase the font size of the top horizontal list of categories.

Otherwise looks attractive and looks like a content rich site - which is cool... this means people will click on and not dump for the next site on their SE list, as soon as open!

Like it :)

Cheers - Asiaplay

The Landscape. Feels as though it might fit on a screen.

Both look great! Second one looks better in my opinion. Also as it has more room for other content, i.e. news etc.

Only on a design standpoint, I definitly prefer the first one. It has a good focal point especially with the player stepping on the third image, and a lot of breathing room. It gets a little weaker at the bottom where I would rather have a single column than two. But for a .tv extension, I really think you should go with the landscape design (the second one) that doesn't have any scrolling required since most of the content should be contained into videos. It also looks pretty good but the bottom images compete a lot with the video area and you don't want that. To fix this, simply make them smaller so the video area becomes the focal point. General design rule: Never do anything half-ass. If you something to be bigger, make it BIGGER. If you want some contrast, give it CONTRAST and if you want to offset something, OFFSET it! :) Doing otherwise makes it look weak and like it might be a mistake. That is a problem that is really present in the second one. The 4 main content boxes are all the same size... where do you think the user's eyes will stop? They simply won't! They will keep wandering from one box to the other.

That is my opinion on both layouts from a design point-of-view... in the end you should go with what you like the most.

Nick
