Its true! The image above is a link to a web site! Its not to be clicked on though … its an offline link that needs to be photographed from a mobile device to be activated. In this case, it may reside on a billboard, a poster on a telephone pole, an ad in a men’s washroom, or a tile on a train station floor. But make no mistake … it is a link to a website!

Yes, this stuff is for people that cannot remember or cannot jot down the URL they need.

The biggest demand for this kind of stuff has been in Japan. This stuff is needed because people are having difficulty using the internet by simply typing into their browser. Most Japanese don't seem to be familiar with the address bar. Perhaps ICANN should be trying to point out it is that thing right at the top of the window in your browser. Maybe if they did that then perhaps some Japanese people would find their Wiki.

this is called 2D bar code.

many mobile phones have (and more will soon to have) the capability to scan it using attached camera and open up browser with mapped URL.

If it has taken 10 years for your ASCIIers to fail to comprehend punycode, what chance is there, that they will get this?

I like the idea behind it. Sounds pretty cool and an interesting development, seems like it would especially simplify going to websites on PDAs and Mobiles when on the run.

None of this is really new but it has only caught on in the Far East.

These definitely fail the telephone test, which is why the system was invented in the first place!

If others here have barcode oriented names, I would welcome a JV or combined effort in this vertical.

手机二维条码.com - mobile 2-d barcodes
