On Sedo auction, closing next 5+/- hours:

christmas.co.uk 5h 17m 13,000 £
christmasgifts.co.uk 5h 17m 3,000 £

Who's getting a deal here? If it finishes proportionately to what the bids are as of now?

33869 christmas gift
14097 christmas
(UK overture)

It depends of course on whether buyers prefer keywords over single dictionary names. I would say it is about right - the latter traditionally perform better in auctions.

not a lot of money for these kinds of domains. it's very odd to me that they didn't generate much interest. especially given that this christmas half of all the sales will be made online in England (some news article).

Well, the .co.uk domain aftermarket is basically shot because of Nominet and their stupid transfer rules.

OTOH, xmas gifts is way superior to xmas. Its traffic is more pinpointed and bound to produce more sales than traffic to the single-word one.

Yes, and if you do invest millions in .co.uk, who is to say they won't launch .uk or even .gb?
