Not entirely true. I have Dot Net with traffic. Not a patch on Dot Com though!

Could be the .net got indexed and the .com didnt

Out of my top 150 Russian traffic domains only 1 is a .net. And that particular dot net gets traffic because there is a developed ASCII look-a-like.

That said, I do have plenty of Russian .nets.

Good for quality and don't expect traffic (unless indexed of course).

I have some good dot nets. Listed them here a while back. Because of the matching country/language issue (.jp, .ru, .fr), they are a bigger gamble than Spanish or Arabic dot nets (theoretically). They get traffic, but nothing like a dot com.

However, dot JP has not been a charmer, either. Dot com all the way unless developed.

The only way to really prove this is have the .com and .jp and put analytics on them both to see which one gets more direct navigation.

And with direct nav being so low at the moment that still may not prove too much IMO.

Not really, it is down to the quality of the keywords, but we are only talking a dozen or so hits a months. Stick with dot coms!

As for Russian i would primarily stick with dot com's as some of the native Russian speakers have pointed out that "net" sounds like "No" so it doesn't sound right alot of the times for a domain ending.

As an aside, I get traffic to dot nets and I see a lot of dot nets indexed on the first pages of Yandex & Rambler. They are used for Russian web sites. A lot of them.

Also, remember that .us does not mean 'US' and '.no' already exists and doesn't mean 'NO'.

Dot net is just an extension and, still, is recognized worldwide.
