Jan. 25, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Statistics released by the government showed that the trade volume between China and Japan, excluding Hong Kong, expanded to US$262.26 billion in 2007, helping China overtake the United States for the first time to become Japan's largest trade partner. Japan's exports to China surged 19% year-on-year last year. The growth was mainly boosted by the export of auto.

Actually , there seems to be a bit of confusion as to whether this has just happened or is about to happen. China's biggest trading partner has, however, for sometime been the EU not the US.

EU is also India's and Russia's largest trading partner:

Of course the US remains the EU's largest trading partner, but that also makes the EU the US's largest trading partner.

Seems like the EU is nearly everyone favourite trading partner apart from Japan.
