Engrish from a Japanese point of view I am used to. In fact it was Engrish that convinced me that of all the non Latin scripts, Japan would probably fare the best with Latin extensions (.jp .com .net). Engrish is broad and massive example of mindshare of Latin characters by the Japanese. They may not have a clue how to make them into real words but they certainly recognize their shapes. I have always likened it to the way that most non French speakers still understand the word "Bonjour". Even though they don't speak French, most people know what "Bonjour" means. Likewise the Japanese understand '.com'

Engrish from a Chinese point of view is new to me. I have no idea how conversant the Chinese population is with Latin characters. I understand that they enter most words in Pinyin so this certainly must make them familiar with Latin characters. Does '.com' have the same mindshare in China as it does in Japan?
