The server itself was always running, answered ping, etc. The problem was that the web services weren't responding. Who knows why it was down or what made it come back up again. Could have been filled hard disks which were just cleaned by cron jobs or any number of other strange things...

I got a response from the webserver once but it could not connect to database server

Hard to believe it wasn't intervention by the admin to get the site back online. Olney must be floating around somewhere...

Interesting thing that I have working IDN Forums RSS in my gmail web-clips when the forum and direct RSS link not worked! How that can be?
