LONDON, Dec 12, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- Free access to high quality mobile applications is creating huge worldwide demand, according to GetJar ( http://www.getjar.com), the world's most popular destination for mobile application downloads. GetJar revealed today that it has delivered 10 million downloads of the Opera Mini mobile web browser to consumers worldwide, the first application to reach this milestone on the site.
In the last 12 months alone, GetJar has generated nearly seven million downloads for Opera, underlining the importance placed on free access to mobile applications by consumers worldwide. GetJar provides an open environment for over 200,000 application developers and millions of consumers, with over 10,000 unique applications available to anyone with a Java, Symbian, Windows Mobile or Flash Lite-compatible phone.
"GetJar is an important partner for Opera and a good route to market outside of our own site," explained Rolf Assev, chief strategy officer at Opera. "Reaching 10 million downloads with one partner is not just a milestone for us, but for the entire mobile applications industry." ....

RD, ....David,

thank you for posting this PR piece...
I am convinced that Opera, Safari , Firefox (eventually on mobile)....
and other browsers for 3G mobile phones....
and flat rate data is the future for IDN's.

www.getjar.com looks awesome....
just what I need ...another time sinkhole / site to download dozens of apps to play with....(grin)

thanks..
Steve

3G is just a stopping off point...maybe time to fast forward and get ready for the evolution into 4G...
The future is coming quick, software stored in cyberspace all accessable via your computer phones.
Best of all, web addresses in native langagues. :)
