Microsoft has announced that it has launched windows 7 in Hindi.

This is the very first time Microsoft has released a beta software with support for Hindi, along with some regular languages like English, German, Japanese and Arabic in the 32-bit version.

The new initiatives is again followed by launch of Language Interface Packs (LIPs) in 12 Indian languages for MS Office and Windows.

According to the company,”This would facilitate company to overcome the language barrier to computing,and has showcased a variety of custom made products directed specifically at the vernacular language market - a market that has been largely left untapped till now.”

If you want to download windows 7 beta in Hindi just go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx and click Hindi in the dropdown box.

Yeah, many of the locals (especially at NP) will tell you not to throw your money away on Indian IDNs. ;)

Microsoft might be a bit slow on the uptake, but compared with much of America they are still lightening fast!

Time for locals to ask for idn.in(idn) registrations to be instituted, or even better to let Verisign go ahead and alias idn.com :)

BTW, what are there good Hindi translations that equate to com and net?
