Hello Everyone,

The portal sedo.com/China is now online with the best Chinese related domain names. This is not an auction, but another great place to find Chinese-themed domains (online for approx. 3 months).

Sorry but shouldn't Chinese-themed domains work best in their native language rather than in English ??

It's a bit like saving you are having a barbeque at the weekend, but it will be a meat-free one !!

Come on Sedo - get your act together !!

You bunch of bumblers don't get it....some companies in the domain business have seemingly determined that
the 90% of Chinese people that can't read English probably prefer internet names they can't read!!! :p

I do give John credit for hanging in here...despite the friendly abuse towards the hardheadedness of sedo.

I love the days when I land on the front page of the forum, and see a new thread from Sedo talking about non-European domains, it's guaranteed to be a laugh every time.

It reads very clear to me, a dot cn promotion. Usually dot cn means ascii.cn, isn't it? sedo is promoting cctld dot cn rather than Chinese idn that includes many tlds. I think they are entitled to promote any cctlds.

Take it easy guys.

Its not just for .cn though. They have .com, .org, .info and many others. Plus, have you seen some of the "Premium Names" on offer ??

Some of the highlights for me include ...

martialarts.us.com
ilovejeans.com.cn
pekingduck.com.cn ( Probably a long distance relative of Rubberduck )

With great names like that up for auction - I might be tempted to dump all my IDNs this weekend so I can try and win that ilovejeans.com.cn domain !!

Your source for the best Chinese top level domains

http://www.sedo.com/us/sedo/sedocomchina/

Sedo is not authorized to sell or resell top level domains, Chinese or otherwise. Please refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top-level_domain

What are listed are second and third level domains, as follows:

Out of the 200 domains listed:

89 are second level *.cn domains.
47 are second level *.com domains.
38 are third-level *.com.cn domains.
6 are third-level *.org.cn domains.
6 are second-level *.info domains.
5 are second-level *.net domains.
3 are second-level *.tw domains.
2 are second-level *.mobi domains.
2 are second-level *.biz domains.
1 is a second-level *.org domains.
1 is a second-level *.hk domain.

To summarize, less than half of the domains in the ".cn promotion" are legitimate second-level .CN domains, ignoring the little value and little used com.cn and .org.cn third-level domains.

11 of the domains have hyphens, further lowering their value.

There will be a $175/hour consulting charge for this advice in the future. Please give me a call.

They can do ANYTHING they want...they are the 1,000 pound gorilla in the game and they don't see any need or urgency to promote native language domains except for German and a rare other few from time to time. A shame they are not taking a more active interest in the upcoming domain "revolution", but they are obviously fat and happy doing things in the status quo.

Haven't you all realized yet that it is a plot by Sedo to try to convince premium IDN holders that they have no value and that when you have finally capitulated and dropped the very names some have held for 9 years Sedo's super auto idn catching contraption will swing in to action and sweep them all up.

Sedo will then hold a monopoly and IDN's will be expected to soar in value- unfortunately they will still have an interface that will prevent Sedo from actually selling them and IDN's will be lost in the unsaleable void- or not. :D

Frankly, it is wonder he has been sacked either for wasting his time or more likely for undermining their business model.

Sedo is going to miss the boat on IDN's no matter what..

http://www.idnfocus.com/2009/08/461294-de-idns-registered/

461,294 IDN dot de's

"This goes to show the very high adoptance of IDNs in Germany, seeing as the language only has 4 letters not on an English keyboard. ä, ö, ü, ß (while ß is not available in IDNs)"

I don't know German...but it would seem that what...

10 to 30 % of ASCII dot de's would be completely accurate German in spelling ??

but don't need the xn-- of course....

So, the Germans get it big time that their language is location bar ready now..

Sedo is going to get flooded with all the garbage dot CN ASCII garbage...

Already ,CNNIC is reporting a 1 million drop in re-reg's....

Chinese auction sites in Chinese are going to auction Chinese IDN names...

so come on...

Even the german IDN just sold is showing up as übernachtung.com on Sedo's homepage. Somehow they handle those transactions. Doh.

I sure hope that someday they take a liking to French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Chinese IDNs...:)
