Internet speculators amnestied
The procedure for priority registration of trademarks in the zone .РФ will not be changed, despite the fact that it does not protect the new domain from speculators. This was the decision taken by the Coordination Center for TLD RU.
Reservation of domain names in the interests of holders of exclusive rights to trademarks began on 25 November, however, this led to a scandal, and two days later was suspended. It turned out that the rules left room for wide ranging activities of speculators. The OOO "Center of effective technologies and information systems" (CETIS), reserved many such domain names as bank.rf, realestate.rf, sex.rf, striptease.rf etc. Association MIR got the right to register domain meeting.rf, music.rf, fooball.rf etc.
Russia's law allows registration as a trademark common words if they are used for certain services. For example, the sign of "striptease" was registered in ROSPATENT for [the class of] cigarettes, cigarettes and other tobacco products.
