Hi IDNers,

I have been reading here (and regging idns) for a while before finally subscribing to this forum. Simply the best source for idn-related discussions.

I am from Germany, so feel free to ask for German translations. As you probably know our idn-market has allready taken off.

And don't forget not to mention the war.

See you,

bumblebee man

I guess, you were hoping for Stocks.com in German. Unfortunately it's not. I would translate it to "supply". But any German would ask "supply of what?" as it is a very general term which doesn't make much sense for itself. For the German Market it is very helpful to get keywords representing Products which can be sold on the internet. And the keyword ist far more important than the extension as net, org, info and eu are quite popular as well.

Thanks.

Yes I thought it was stocks since many dictionary say so. But then other dictionaries show it as "storages". Very confused.

Thanks for the excellent explanation. It seems I should drop it.

Alex

I've got IDNs in about 20 languages but not in German. :D

Not that I don't believe in German IDNs, I was just too late. Finding good Keywords in German even with IDN is about as hard as in English. :o

Welcome, I guess you have a few German-idn.de

What would be in your opinion, the single biggest reason why Germany has adopted IDN.de so well?

The term is probably not searched very often, but German car producers like to advertise their cars with it. So you should contact them.

It's because the acsii-versions of the "Umlaut" are so unpopular. No one really types in "moebel" instead of "möbel".

From 0 (poor) to 10 (great)

damen-bekleidung.com 7 - women's clothes

modekleidung.com - 2 - kind of double term because "mode" and "kleidung" are used as synonyms

kleidungkaufen.com - 8 - buying clothes

sport-zubehör.com 7 - useful for a sports related online shop

schönheits.com - 0 - not a stand alone term

Überprüft.com - 1 - hard to monetize as it is a special form of a verb

verkäufen.com - 0 - word doesn't exist with umlaut

köln-mülheim.com - 4 - part of Cologne but only 40.000 inhabitants

möbel-discount.com - 9 - nice one. Furniture is great for German domains as it is a highly competitive market. This could well be worth X,XXX $.

schwimmbad-zubehör.com - 2 - Can't think of any use for it.

Even though a few of them are worthless the others will certainly compensate for that.

The terms are great as geo domains, but I'm unsure about the extension. Popular extensions in Germany are de, com, net, org, info and eu.

and do you know how the end user ended up getting it? was it through advertising & awareness, or was it just human nature

I would say, the end end user never understood that it wasn't possible before. Even when it didn't lead anywhere "möbel.de" probably had more type-ins than "moebel.de".

So I guess it was human nature. 99% of German internet users have never even heard of IDNs and just use them naturally. And I can't remember any major advertising-campaign targeting end users.

Lüttich is the German name for Liège in Belgium. Decent geo. :)

Königin will be hard to sell as there is no queen in Germany. Without branding or developing hardly worth reg-fee. :(

läden.net - shops. Perhaps too general for a domain because people tend to search for products and not shops. Could work well as shopping directory with subdomains like bücher.läden.net (book.shops.net).

prüfungen.net - exams. good for a student site.

büroware.com - Not used very often.

küpper.com - Second name. Hard to evaluate.

güter.com - goods. Same as "läden".

gebäuden.com - Word can't stand alone.

ärzten.com - Word can't stand alone.

präsentieren.com - to present. Could be a doc-sharing site. But in general nouns are more common for German domains.

I do get type-in traffic to many of my German IDNs.

For example:

billige-flüge.com
jägerhof.com
mädchen-spiele.com
männersex.com

and many more.

I have had many unsolicited offers for billige-flüge.com, but so far none that motivated me to sell.

Good one.

If it was billig-flüge or billigflüge it could be worth more than 100 k.

For less than 5k you shouln't even negotiate.
