I am surprised that Korea and Japan are absent.

On the Taiwan issue....???
Are Taiwanese likely to use simplified characters domestically ??

On Japan....it must be a political problem with JPNIC at this point.
Unless they are trying to throw in hiragana/katagana synchronization some how....???

I hate to be the downer on a plus-side for IDN. It's great so many are passing string-evaluation.

When are the first four strings that passed string-evaluation over 2 FUCKING MONTHS AGO going to pass IANA and go live?

You know. Real world use?

Someone needs to interview ICANN again and find out exactly what happens next.

AFAIA, the last step is simply ICANN asking IANA to add the string to the root. That takes very little time.

We're sitting in an unknown middle step at present. WTF is it?

Ah. They are onto the last step - string delegation.

From http://www.icann.org/en/topics/idn/fast-track/idn-cctld-requestors-manual-16nov09-en.pdf

"Request for String Delegation
While this manual primarily focuses on the String Evaluation part of the IDN ccTLD Fast Track Process, a reference is included here concerning the string delegation process. This is to demonstrate all the steps required to delegate an IDN ccTLD that is requested through the IDN ccTLD Fast Track Process.
ICANN maintains a process for delegating top‐level domains in its execution of its IANA functions. A guide to the delegation procedure for existing country‐code top‐level domains is described at http://www.iana.org/domains/root/delegation‐guide/. This process remains largely applicable to IDN ccTLDs. The online document will be updated to reflect updated operational practices for IDN ccTLDs.
ICANN will notify requesters that successfully complete the String Evaluation Process that the selected string is approved for use by that country or territory, and that they are welcome to apply for the delegation process (Stage 3). While the process described in Module 5 of the IDN ccTLD Fast Track Implementation Plan is concerned with assessing the string, the delegation process involves assessing whether a proposed sponsoring organization is a qualified trustee for the local Internet community.
The String Delegation Process is further described in Module 6 to the Final Implementation Plan. As the requirements of the two processes are separate, each requester must submit the qualifying documentation for delegation separately. If some documentation is the same as for the string evaluation process, it must be resubmitted at this time."

I note the quoted page http://www.iana.org/domains/root/delegation‐guide/ is 404.

It'll be a while before we find out.

China and Taiwan have gone into another step "Synchronized IDN ccTLD Evaluation Process"

Since this is only a proposal at this stage (http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-22mar10-en.htm) and has yet to get board approval, I wouldn't wait up for those 2 ccTLD's.

And from http://www.icann.org/en/icp/icp-1.htm

"(a) Delegation of a New Top Level Domain. Delegation of a new top level domain requires the completion of a number of procedures, including the identification of a TLD manager with the requisite skills and authority to operate the TLD appropriately. The desires of the government of a country with regard to delegation of a ccTLD are taken very seriously. The IANA will make them a major consideration in any TLD delegation/transfer discussions. Significantly interested parties in the domain should agree that the proposed TLD manager is the appropriate party. The key requirement is that for each domain there be a designated manager for supervising that domain's name space. In the case of ccTLDs, this means that there is a manager that supervises the domain names and operates the domain name system in that country. There must be Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity to the nameservers and electronic mail connectivity to the entire management, staff, and contacts of the manager. There must be an administrative contact and a technical contact for each domain. The administrative contact must reside in the country involved for ccTLDs."

Can't find any information so far where they might list "delegations received and being acted upon".

The IANA URL was broken because the PDF document supplied by ICANN converted the hyphen to a different character.

As the window gets shorter, there is still time to take a guess when the IDNccTLDs will go into the root. Pick a date at: http://www.idnbusiness.com/2010/01/when-will-first-real-idn-cctld-be-added.html Good Luck to all:)

Egypt, Russian Federation, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia past string-evaluation and were sent to IANA for string-delegation on January 21, 2010. This has been 2 months and 5 days ago since this happened. Over four months, going on 5, since the "Fast Track" began.

Tina said it would be "early" 2010 for .IDN to go live on the web. Well?

Great so many are passing string-evaluation right now. But, when is IANA going to pass anything? Seriously, WTF is taking them so long? Are they that backed-up?
