Sedo are the biggest bunch of ************ ( put your own adjective here ) in the domaining world - especially when it comes to IDNs. And you may not have noticed, but this is IDNForums.com - not BullshitASCIIForums.com

Always look at the bright side of life.
Good domains feel well everywhere as along as they have a buyer.

"Do not complain on the road if the car you are driving is a bicycle"

Do not attack a company and their employers (just because they are 'german' as I have seen in this forum). Sedo's employees are coming from the 5 continents.

Strange is only that a few so-called domainers who are supposed to deal with INTERNATIONAL domain names, are showing a rassistic behaviour.

Funny is that after years this forum is still populated by frustrated members who have no other aim as to attack others.

And you call yourself domainer?

Thanks Sedo

Interesting argument about the bicycles. Last time the Germans had great influence over the rest of Europe, just about everyone else was on a bicycle. Seems little ever changes.

This is just Dabsi talk. Ignore, enjoy, tell him in good old Anglo-Saxon language to shut the fuck up, entirely to you :)

btw, for the sake of disclosure, I did actually help create the Sedo "machine". They were really struggling in the early days trying to sell their "domain sales platform" (very very few sales, exact number in PM only) and I did some consulting work for them, told them about the concept of "domain parking", and the rest is .... $$$$$$ (for them) :)

By the sound of it - you've sold a domain through Sedo. If this is the case - congratulations - though why not just come out and say it - rather than suck Sedo's dick ??

Also, I find it pretty strange that all this talk of "racism / rassistic behaviour" seems to have started from your post. Up until then, no one had made any comment about race/country or anything else that I can see that could be mistake as "rassistic behaviour". So your point about there being a racist undertone in this thread is in fact your own undertone - not anyone elses.

I have just cornered a SEDO rep, and she wants me to produce some examples of the problems with their current search system. So if you can come up with some complaints and list them here, I'll take her through them after the live auction finishes.

1) No "IDNs only" filter.

2) I try to search for "xn-" instead:

You have entered an invalid character. Domain names may only contain letters, numbers and hyphens (-). All other special characters are not available in a domain name.

3) when entering a Latin IDN term the EXACT term will show up somewhere way behind the ASCII-version and various domains which include the ASCII-version plus some other shit words or even numbers attached to it

Example:
I entered "teléfono". On the first page I'm getting:

telefonos.es
videotelefono.es
tutelefono.es
liberartelefono.es
telefonotactil.es
telefonosonline.es
radiotelefonos.es
liberartelefonos.es
telefonostactiles.es

If I wanted a domain without accent I'd be entering the terms without the accent. If I wanted numbers and shit words attached to it I'd be searching it with numbers and shit terms attached to it. I certainly don't enter a term with accents only to find out that the exact match domain name shows up behind all this shit.

This gets even worse if the ASCII-Version is an English word. You won't find a single IDN within top 1000 results for "téléphone". I didn't bother to look any further as it is crystal clear that it is totally pointless to enter accents if they get ignored anyway.

Hopeless.

So yes, some of this has been fixed. I have no idea why you can actually search in Russian but not in Chinese but this must be Sedo logic. As for Latin IDNs it does look a lot better than before.

Their algorythm prefers:

exact match over broad match
IDN over ASCII (when entered with IDN characters)
ccTLD over gTLD

with too much emphasis on the latter imo.

So yes, some of this has been fixed. I have no idea why you can actually search in Russian but not in Chinese but this must be Sedo logic. As for Latin IDNs it does look a lot better than before.

I have a technical explaination. They hand coded in the characters for each language.

But they were lazy.

So, things like Japanese kana, and Cyrillic, are included. But Chinese characters, just too many of them to put in there, and how do you know where to get a list of all of them? Simple, don't put them in the search algorithm at all.
