TEL IDN Preregistration (http://www.name.com/tel-idn-preregistration/)

Hello all. TEL IDN domain names will be available starting on June 15, 2010 14:00 UTC. We (Name.com) are now taking pre-orders and will attempt to acquire the domain on your behalf at launch time. As always, please contact me directly if there are any questions or issues. Current price for a TEL IDN preregistration is $29.99 and all domains are first come first served.

Thanks!

LOL, I imagine a few here will go after certain terms. June 15th not a good time for me but I might try and get a few Molvanîa.tel for example :D

Definitely makes no sense for IDN. You can't even make money off of them. You can have a contact page...

Yeah, or even Hos.in.mo.tel ......

Honestly though, I think you are right, its the best use of all these amazingly crap new TLDs - just getting the great short words .........

Is their a good service to generate them?

I don't think you actually have control over your own DNS with .tel so it's all a waste of time.

I'd rather have poop sent to me in the mail than register IDN.tel.

I think you can now add Adsense so if they get any traffic or could be optimized money could be made?

You can put a phone number on the page and wait for the line to start ringing off the hook.

I know you all are super excited about the TEL IDN landrush so I just wanted to give this a little bump :p

I know it is not huge but despite the poo pooing of the TEL TLD we do have over 200 pre-registrations. So, you better order yours fast while supplies last!! ;)

It's a little hard to say if idn.tel is sending any traffic to name.com because the site doesn't link over to it and no referrer is set. If you want to turn that text into a link I could check the stats and see.

No worries, if you get anything from it it's on me. I know we are getting a fair bit of traffic but then with the launch next week if we don't get it now we may never get it. :)

I agree that .tel is only worthwhile with it's hacks. Otherwise it is limited.

That's awesome :) Better than the ol' goose egg. Hopefully it keeps up after the "landrush".

Just an update, we now have about 300 pre-orders. I had to filter a few out due to a list of not allowed domains that was published today by the registry. Nothing like getting us pertinent info in a timely manner. So, get them while their hot folks!! :P You can get yours here: http://www.name.com/tel-idn-preregistration/. Full refund on domains that we do not acquire on your behalf.

I also added a little translation tool to the page the other day. It uses the Google Translation API so your mileage may vary on the actual translations, but it might help.

Thanks,
Owen Borseth

As always, we like to post the results to you fine folks. We acquired 215 out of 273 valid pre-orders. The other registrars that got names that we were going for were:

NET-CHINESE CO., LTD. got 1
ENTORNO DIGITAL, SA got 2
1API GMBH got 19
DYNADOT LLC got 29

If you got names, congrats. I'm sure you won't be piping up though given the TEL poo pooing here :P

PS: Go Brazil!! I'm guessing 3-0, Brazil.

Lovely.

What sort of names were on the ban list? Was it mixed script rules, or IP/TM related?
