OK...
13 years ago....Pointcast ....a bust
then WebTV acquired by MS.....a bust..
then Apple TV ....lackluster ....still a bust in my book.

Tivo ...revolutionary...but supplanted for many by DVR's in set top boxes...

Google acquires YouTube.... money sink on bandwidth / storage and red ink for OpEx and network TV take downs

Hulu .....not a bust ....but not SkyNet or Dish either.

so once more into the breach.....

GoogleTV

http://www.google.com/tv/

Would allow xxxxxTV.com and xxxxxxxxxxxx.TV domains to gain an icon on the television's desktop or favorites list.

The SDK will be linked with the Android SDK...

very cool.

Android phones will be linked, such that the phone will be a mouse for the web browser on the TV.

Developers will be able to create their own picture in picture .

Bitch slap to Apple....Flash compliant from the start.
So Hulu is likely to not be an early adopter..

Huge sigh of relief at Adobe and their minions of developers.

Sony and Intel CEO's at the announcement as well.

The whole idea that a TV oriented domain would be as discoverable as the BBC / CBC / ABC/ ITN et al and could get its icon saved as a 'favorite' is
enticing for the future of video/TV oriented domains.

Once Cisco or Lenovo makes the cigarette box or cigarette lighter router for Android/ Chrome / Linux/ Mozilla/ Opera/ then every 3G tower in the world is for some new dark fiber to get lit.

I would think that MS/ Apple/ HP-palm/ RIM/ Nokia/ will have to up their OS and TV roadmaps rather quickly when a trio of Sony/Intel/Google goes with something beyond YouTube like this.

Being able to 'Tivo' TV/Video from the web, is going to be very bizarre for advertisers. On air TV or the CPC crowd .
