OK,
Some one has to start this, now that the Brazilians and the Aussies have landed in RSA.

In Brazil's case, the amount of events where RSA kids will be able to see exhibitions etc, should be inspiring.

Kind of odd, that as a Yank amongst football/futbol fans, I should start the 2010 thread.

But my bona fides are solid, I fell in love with the sport when Pele played
in NY over 30 years ago..

Oct/ 1977
first half for the Cosmos, then the second half for his old team Santos.
To see him and Giorgio Chinaglia as the 2 strikers was a thrill.

But here at IDNF , using the 2006 thread with famous head butting images, seems rather off.

So.

Group A
rsa, mex, uru, fra

seems the RSA home squad is unlikely to move on.
Uruguay has 2 titles...conspiracies remain those teams had Arg/ Italian nationals but Montevideonistas remain mum.

RSA and Mex moving on, and Fra not , would not really affect August in France in any event.

group B

arg,nga,kor,gre

would love to see the super eagles from Nigeria beat Maradonna's squad.
but I like Messi a lot, and think he deserves the world stage to the quarters etc..

hope the Greeks have enough euros for airfare to make it to RSA without having to pay the euros back to the Germans. ;)

group C

eng/usa/alg/svn

love Rooney, blase on Donovan, so believe it or not I would like to see
the Three Lions squad win the group to have the best chances in the tourney.

I guess I will need to practice :
"Three Lions on a shirt, Jules Rimet (http://www.idnforums.com/wiki/Jules_Rimet_Trophy) still gleaming / Thirty years of hurt, never stopped me dreaming"

Intend to don a towel on my head as an honorary Egyptian to root against Algeria.

Egyptian anger has not lapsed for months, a friend has told me.

group D

ger/aus/srb/gha

hoping the Germans do not play boring 1-0 and drop back football.

Amazed the 'Socceroos' from Oz are there. So are they it seems.
For some reason, I think a lot of RSA fans will be rooting for Aus. and NZ in group F, because intoxication might confuse them enough to think they are
watching a very poor rugby match. (grin)

Aussies remain confused that FIFA ref's are not wearing white lab coats ???

I believe that Russians, Poles, Belgians, Chinese, Venezualians, and Columbians are completely confused that Aus/ NZ and PRK are in the tourney .

correction...the Chinese know the corruption is bad, but 4 friends of mine are very upset to not even qualify.

Shang Hai residents are heavily favoring ROK over the PRK, and a friend wrote that bar owners have been told not to let ROK flags exeed PRK flags etc..

jeeeeesh.

group E

ned/den/jpn/cmr

I hope the Dutch play inspired.
The last team to reach a FIFA finals without dropping a single point in qualifying - West Germany in 1982 - went on to contest the final.

I hope they go far into the tournament.
One of my favorite presents, is the Oranje jumper I have.
Very tight fit on the belly unfortunately now.

:o

but US based networks Flashbacks on the tv to the 1970's every cup is getting tiresome.... Cruyff replays are not needed any more, thank you very much.

CMR ...flashbacks to Roger Milla for CMR in the 1990's would be wonderful.

group F

ita/par/nzl/svk

Completely amazed the NZ's are in the tourney.

Do the Kiwis in football do Haka dances ? ....I hope so.
I have read that the Slovakia squad should be strong vs. Italy.

I am completely against the karma of the Italians repeating as champions.

Group G

bra/prk/Civ/ por

Completely rooting for Portugal to win the group over Brazil.
A friend wrote me that Angolans in the RSA will be rooting for Port.
OK, but still expecting the female cariocas from Bra , jumping in bikinis
in the RSA winter season to be odd, fun, and compelling.

I am hoping for the Bra/ PRK game to be an amazing 4 goal ++ for Bra.
I have been told that a Brazilian band has a Kim il Jong samba/ bassanova composition ready. Hope YouTube is ready for that...(grin)

completely no idea how good the Ivory Coast team is.

Group H
Esp/ sui/ hon/ chile

I think Spain will win the group easily, but the Swiss, Hondurans, and Chileans will play extremely and surprisingly well from the news sites I read.

I have no idea which of the 3 will move on.

Best karma final for friends of mine who have suffered ..

The Oranje vs Spain

Oranje deserves a title, relative to Argentina 78/86 ...especially 86.
Spain deserves making a final finally ...

Golden Boot :

Messi

Looking forward to this thread being a lot of fun all the way from 6/11 to 7/11

Here's to hoping that incompetent yellows and reds from obscure ref's from obscure nations are not prevalent.

Also, winning a Cup via shoot outs still bothers me.
They should play on, even if players faint and sides are 7 on 7 at 150 minutes.
Will never happen, but penalty shoot outs just bug me.

well,

let the youtube video mashups of rivals eating each others logo-food commence.

Ugh.

Hot dogs/ sausages/brats/ bangers I am sure to follow.

Sad.

Physically marketing on the food is poor taste and in poor taste.

As is proper, I imagine that anti- Arsenal foodstuffs will be first in the UK ?

I believe the Oregon State University Beavers are likely to pass.

but the U of Oregon Ducks may force the issue as usual.

England to win. Anything else related to World Cup unimportant. How parochial am I?

Just to be controversial, I'd dump John Terry btw ... what a *****
