Among the Russian technology executives accompanying Medvedev will be ... Arkady Volozh, CEO of Yandex, Russia's largest search engine and a Google competitor in the country.

I don't know if it's a result of the trip, or a result of the introduction of .рф, but Yandex has suddenly started handling IDNs in a much more reasonable way.

IDN's are now displayed in unicode instead of punycode, and I see some indications that the unicode domain name is used for indexing and SERP.

Just like Google.

Wow, that is something new for Yandex. It's faster than I thought the change would take to be made considering their stance on IDN for the last few years. Although Google is more relevant than Yandex.

Nice!

Once joe blow public see's IDN's appearing in search results, the type-in's will build.

The type ins have already increased, since last month.
