4.38 Trillion Yuan:

The expected turnover of e-commerce in China in 2010. That's about 650B USD. In the first half of 2010, turnover increased by 60% from the same period in 2009.

Out of 420 million people currently online in China, over one quarter have bought something online. Online shoppers are expected to number over 200 million in 2012.

Discuss.

China is on pace, and has the potential to experience a growth not capable of taking place anywhere else on Earth. It is the largest country by far in the world in terms of population, though it is still developing having a relatively low GDP per capita (meaning the income is very imbalanced - high concentration in certain places and almost nothing in a lot of other places). Though the full article above still lists China as the #3 economy in the world it has, according to respectable estimates now passed Japan as the world's 2nd largest economy. It is still a long way away from #1 which is U.S., but still very impressive and on-track for incredible growth (web enabled cell-phones have enabled a large part of this growth)...
